Obituary of James Ross

James Lynn Ross (Jamie) June 25th, 1943 - January 23rd, 2014 Sadly, but with peace and dignity at Providence Healthcare, Jamie passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Jamie will be greatly missed by his adoring family, and his many friends and associates from Port Perry, Community Living Durham North, and the Scugog Lake Stewards. Jamie is survived by his partner of 12 years, Louise Renwick, her children Jane (Kaley), Trish (Rami) and Katie (Justin), as well as his sister Lynn Saunders and her daughters Lyndsey (Gord), Natasha (Justin), Bethany and Megan. Jamie was also "Poppie" to Sebastien, Zoey, Brady, Elle and Ava, and Great Uncle Jamie to Claire, Amy, Nathan and Hailey. He was predeceased by his mother Francine Lynn Ross and his father John Ross. Jamie was raised in Toronto and Winnipeg, attending Kelvin High School, United College (University of Manitoba) and York University (MBA). He lived in Port Perry for the last twenty years of his life and was a great contributor to his community. Jamie was on the board of the Scugog Lake Stewards for over a decade, as Treasurer, President and Past President. He was also the President of the Board of Directors for Community Living Durham North. Jamie was the recipient of the Queen's Silver Medal Award in 2013 and on January 22nd, 2014 received the Kawartha Conservation Individual Conservationist Award. He was President and CEO of Canvasback Management Inc. until his retirement in 2007. He was also an avid outdoorsman with a passion for duck hunting and was a Director with Ducks Unlimited for many years. Jamie was the ultimate host, opening his home to family and friends for countless celebrations. He was a gourmet cook and loved his Green Egg barbeque. A man of many talents and interests, he was sincere, generous and an enthusiastic mentor to many. He will never be forgotten. A memorial will be held to honour Jamie at the BAAGWATING COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION, 22521 Island Road, Port Perry on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations may be made to Community Living Durham North, 60 Vanedward Drive, Port Perry, Ontario L9L 1G3 or a charity of your choice.
