Obituary of Donald Ladkin

DONALD A. LADKIN It is with great sadness that we announce Don's passing on December 31, 2013 in Toronto. Don is survived by his loving wife Sharon Murray. He was the cherished father of Craig (Kimberly), Julie Westphal (Todd) and Jennifer Roberts (Mark) and grandfather of Mackenzie, Ruby, Jasper, Cole and Luke. No one was a more adoring husband, loving father, proud grandfather and devoted friend than Don. He was an old-fashioned gentleman in the best tradition; a man of values that were backed up by actions. Even in his last few months of illness, he was always gracious, concerned for others and kept his sense of humour. A graduate of the University of Toronto Schools (UTS) and The University of Western Ontario he spent most of his career as an executive at Maclean Hunter and Rogers Media - the consummate salesman, dedicated employee and mentor to many. He was an active member of The Toronto Lawn Tennis Club for over 30 years, organizing games and social outings with his group of Seminarians. One of his many passions was the theatre and he enjoyed supporting the Stratford Festival every year. His many friends and the people whose lives he touched will remember the twinkle in his eye, his strength of character, his generosity and his vigorous serve. If you were one of those lucky ones who knew Don, you know how he embraced life and all that could be enjoyed and always put others before himself. Our thanks to Dr. R. Burkes and his oncology team, Dr. Y. Patel and his medical team and the nursing staff on 10 North at Mount Sinai Hospital for their compassion and care. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A. W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (South of Eglinton Ave), from 3:00 - 6 p.m. on Saturday , January 11th. A funeral service will be held at ST. CUTHBERT'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1399 Bayview Ave. on Sunday January 12th, at 2:00 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and will be directed to the Oncology Department, The Scott Mission or a charity of your choice.
