My deepest sympathy to Ken's family on his passing and also that of Eleanor whom Ken adored. I worked for Dr. Butler from 1972 to 1978 at his office on St. George St. and helped him move his office closer to St. Michael's on Shuter St. He held my utmost respect as a doctor and a personality with intelligence, sense of humour and grace and my years of working with him were among the best of my career. Always enjoyed conversations with Eleanor and remember a time when she filled in at the office for my vacation. I fondly remember his dilemma at trying to name his new sailboat and a couple of trips he treated John and I to on that boat. All who knew him, friends, colleagues and patients had the utmost respect for him. He will be greatly missed!

I read the obituary in the G&M today and wish to send my sympathies to Dr. Butler's family. I share at least 2 aspects of his history. My father (Rob Turner) was a sergeant in the RCAF in GB during WWII working as a radar operator. It is probable that they worked together. I am also a hematologist and I am well aware of Ken's contributions to the development of Clinical Hematology (and Palliative Care) in Canada. I have known many of his trainees and they all extol his virtues. May he Rest in Peace!
