I have many fond memories of visiting Verna over many years. She often treated me to dinner at the Rosedale Club. She was a dear friend to my mother, Joan Ridout Bruce, and cared for her lovingly in her last years. My mother and Verna visited me in Calgary a long time ago and we did the drive to Jasper together. What fun it was. She will be dearly missed.

With wonderful memories of your mother. Jennifer and Sandra, you'll remember your mother and Liz Tory were the fastest runners at Sports Day in the Junior School -she won a lot of ribbons for Edith Nainby - though I think Hilda Calhoun also gave her some stiff competition! And your Mum was always such fun at home, wanting to know everything that was going on in our lives and letting Jennifer hold the first mixed party in Grade 7. She loved to laugh and was always so elegant - much like you, Jennifer!

Verna was a very dear friend of my family especially of my mother Joan Bruce. Verna and Joan shared many good times together with hours of interesting conversations. Verna was so thoughtful, intellegent and kind. We will miss her.

I read of Verna's passing in the Globe yesterday. She and your father were so very kind and helpful to me in 1981 when my Sarah was sick and dying at the Sick Kid's. I can not tell you how wonderful they both were. I think of Verna every Thanksgiving and every Christmas.....I use her recipe for cranberry sauce, which now even my granddaughters love.
