Obituary of Elizabeth Chisholm

CHISHOLM, Elizabeth Anne "Betty"Born in Scarborough Junction March 22nd, 1931, the only child of Thomas and Annie Heron Empringham. Died at 11:55 p.m. on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2008 in Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, at the age of 76 years. Much loved wife and best friend of James "Bob" Chisholm for 42 years, and mother of Stephen, Anne (husband Rick Gostick) and Catherine (husband Chris Mills). Will be missed by two wonderful grandchildren Amy and Ryan Gostick, sister-in-law Donna Chisholm and nieces and nephews Barry (Laurie), Karen (Greg) and Sheri (Mike), grandnephews Tyler and Branden and grandniece Karen. Betty has enjoyed close family relationships, and has many relatives and close friends in the Toronto area and elsewhere, including many wonderful neighbours, all of whom have been very supportive during her illness with cancer. A cherished part of her social life has been playing bridge in the Bethesda Marathon Bridge group for about thirty years, and with other local bridge groups, plus her church affiliation, all of which have provided the foundation for a great many long term friendships. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 17th, 2008. There will be a private family internment at Thornhill Cemetery. A service of Remembrance will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 at JUBILEE UNITED CHURCH, 40 Underhill Drive, Don Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests if friends so desire that donations in memory of Betty be directed to "The Palliative Care Unit" in care of The Sunnybrook and Women's Foundation, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4N 3M5, or to the Canadian Cancer Society - Toronto Unit, 20 Holly Street, Suite 101, Toronto, Ontario, M4S 3B1.
