I have learned from St. Paul's School, Concord, NH of Andy Silber's death. He and I were colleagues in the English department there, where Andy began his teaching career. He was an enthusiastic newcomer, excited by learning the trade in the classroom and being a part of a lively department. The quest for a more scholarly life and teaching at a different level led him away from SPS, but I have never forgotten Andy's excitement and delight as he began learning the trade! ALAN N. HALL

I was very sad to read of the passing of Andy. He was a great supporter of the arts, and I shall remember his intelligent and warm personality when he would attend my jazz performances. I'm so sad his happy face won't be around any longer, but he leaves a wonderful memory.

There are people you meet just a few times in your life, but they give directions to your life and development in a wonderful way. Andy was such a person for me. We met during his visit in Berlin in 2007 accompanying Gunild and Veronica. A couple of wonderful days followed with Museum Island and it`s great museums, The Reichstag building, Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, two ballets in two opera Houses of Berlin and plenty of interesting evenings on the terrace of my house. To say thank you we had a great evening in Four Season Opera House in Toronto with “Midsummer Night`s Dream”. It was a pleasure to talk with Andy about Shakespeare and Goethe. I will always remember his words “Shakespeare wrote more` Shakesperian` than English”. I`ll never forget these words. During our dinner Andy showed me `fiddle heads` and explained it to me. All his explanations were so distinct and clear. Andy`s knowledge seemed infinite. Nevertheless, he was such a modest man. Every time he was supportive to friends. Whatever a friend wanted to know, he drilled it down for him in books or on searching online. During my visit 2009 in Toronto I was going to see “Anne of Green Gables “. Andy prepared it for me and participating me in his later wife`s favorite interests of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Additionally, Andy was a humorous man. After our common visit to George Balanchine ballet in Leipzig, he danced some steps on the street with a cheerful, beaming face. Our hearts opened to all this sweeping enthusiasm. It was a great pleasure to have fun with Andy Silber. Daniela Brock

I am so sorry for your loss. Andy was a warm, generous man with a smile for everyone. We shared our love of ballet and that art form is so lucky to have had his passionate support.
