WELD, John Douglas
April 2, 1928 to October 2, 2013
John will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Patricia, and his much loved daughters Wendy (David) Jarvis and Leeanne (Chris) Kostopoulos. He was predeceased by his son Thomas (Gillian). John was a devoted "Grampy" to his six grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew), Christopher (Sarah), Strachan, Pearce, Andreus and Olivia. He will be missed by his stepchildren Grant (Lisa, Peter and Andrew), Geoffrey, Tricia and Andrew Hall.
John was born in London, Ontario. He was educated at Ridley College and the University of Western Ontario. John started work in Winnipeg with the Farmers Advocate but the majority of his career was with the family book manufacturing business, The Bryant Press, where he became President and C.E.O. He was a past president of the Ontario Printers Association, the Toronto Hunt Club, and a member of the Board of Governors of the North York General Hospital.
John was a life member of the Toronto Golf Club, a member of the Toronto Cricket and Curling Club, the Rosedale Walking Club, the Out to Lunch Bunch and the Intitram Society. One of his very favourite pastimes was duck hunting at the Emily Creek Club. He was a founding member of Croquet Canada, a sport he enjoyed playing both in Canada and the U.S. as well as at the family cottage in Muskoka.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7. Funeral service will be held in ST. JOHN'S ANGLICAN CHURCH YORK MILLS, 19 Don Ridge Drive on Tuesday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in remembrance of John may be made to a charity of your choice.
