Obituary of George Brace

GEORGE BARRY BRACEAidan and Julianna have had their last hug, toss in the air, and kisses from the grandfather they called Poppa. Dorothy, his beloved wife of 39 years, treasured daughter Anna and son-in-law Rick held his hands as Barry, age 67, passed peacefully from this world on Ash Wednesday after a life of service to his family, community, and the disadvantaged. A senior consulting partner in Deloitte+Touche, he was active in the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, among other professional organizations, and was a founding member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada. He unselfishly gave his time and talents to UNICEF Canada as senior office and director for many years, the Children's Aid Society of Toronto as director and president, director and chair of the Children's Aid Foundation, director of the Rotary Club of Toronto and President of the club's charitable foundation. A history buff with an unfailing sense of humour, Barry's deep commitment to his immediate and extended family and his numerous friends, a love of music, travel, and cottaging in Georgian Bay, as well as a lively interest in sports and public affairs rounded out a full life well lived. He left the world a better place and enriched the lives of all who knew him. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008. Funeral service in FAIRLAWN AVENUE UNITED CHURCH, Toronto at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. If desired, donations to the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation or the Barry Brace Scholarship Fund with the Toronto Children's Aid Foundation would be appreciated.
