GOODERHAM, PETER STRONGMarch 23rd, 1926 - February 4th, 2008On Monday, February 4th, 2008 in his 82nd year, Peter Strong Gooderham passed away peacefully at the Toronto General Hospital. Peter was the younger son of the late Henry Stephen Gooderham and the late Dorothy Frances Mulkern, beloved husband of 42 years to the late Jane Graeme Hay and the devoted father of Sarah Graeme Nadherny (Douglas), Peter Hay Gooderham (Michele) and Margaret Frances Gooderham and much loved grandfather to Charles Nadherny, Jane Nadherny, Victoria Gooderham and Georgina Gooderham. He was predeceased by his brother, H. Stephen Gooderham.Peter was a man of great charm, integrity and acumen. He was born in Toronto and attended the prep at Upper Canada College and then Ridley College, a school for which he had great fondness and life-long attachment. Upon graduation, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1945. Thereafter, he began his long and successful business career at Wills, Bickle in 1948. He was a Governor of the Toronto Stock Exchange and a long time director and Chairman of The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company from 1956 to 2001. He was an elder and strong supporter of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He was a long serving Governor of Ridley College serving in many capacities but most importantly, as the proud representative for his Class of '44.Throughout his life, he was devoted to his family, his dear Jane and to Georgian Bay. Having learned to sail at the Junior Club at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Peter loved boats and owned many of them, spending his best times on the special sailing trips around the Bay aboard Vivia IV. He was a member of the Toronto Club, the York Club, the Badminton and Racquet Club, where he had many friends and spent many happy times.
