Obituary of Magdaline Miko-Lyons
Magdaline Miko-Lyons (nee Cyarto)
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Magda on Friday, August 16, 2013 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by husband Stephen Miko and brother Bill Cyarto. Beloved mother of Stephen, Alex and Katharine. Dear mother-in-law of Adria, Susan and Jim. Cherished 'Gramma' of David, Heather (Alex), Peter (Brita), Dan (Dawn), Laura (Kirk), Kathleen (Joshua) and Stephanie (George). Enthusiastic and energetic Great-Gramma to Caylah, Leah, Josephine, Liora, Taylor, Bradley, Maxwell, Marshall, Alexis and Lachlan. Born October 18, 1920 in the town of Nyirkaya, Szabales, northeastern Hungary, to parents Albert and Elizabeth Cyarto. Together with her brother Bill moved to Canada in 1929 where they purchased property on Glencairn Avenue near Bathurst Street. Never afraid of hard work, Magda helped make a living for her family by working the farm fields, selling eggs door-to-door and delivering newspapers daily to over 200 customers. Once married, she worked as a fur finisher on Spadina Avenue, paying off her mortgage while husband Steve was in the Canadian Air Force 1940 to 1945. Magda found great pleasure in her garden throughout her life, where she worked tirelessly. Magda met life's challenges with determination and success. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her as a strong, determined woman with enormous love and concern for her family and friends. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at LEASIDE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 670 Eglinton Avenue East, on Monday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m.. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Magda and her indomitable spirit are asked to consider the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
