David Hugh Meredith McLean 1925 - 2013 Peacefully and with family at his side, David McLean died on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Predeceased in March, 2013 by his loving wife Diana (nee Windeyer) of 61 years. Survived by his six children Sara, Meredith (Richard), Judith (Donald), Hugh (Mairead), Patricia and John (Julie) and grandchildren Benjamin, Jessica, Maxwell, Fraser, Spencer, David, John, Rebecca, Andrew, Katherine, Kennedy, Devon, Tyler, Falon, Aidan, Oran, James, Jackson, Margaret and Harrison, who will all miss him dearly. He also leaves behind his brother Archie (Kay) and sister Mary (John Beaton). David was predeceased by his father Ronald Griffin McLean, his mother Doris Marion Fitzgerald (Chapman), his stepfather Reginald W. Fitzgerald and his sister Meredith Ross. Born in Toronto, David moved to Thornhill at the age of 7 where he continued to live after serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. In 1948 he established the real estate brokerage of David McLean Limited in Toronto, Thornhill, Richmond Hill and Cooksville. After meeting Diana while sailing at the RCYC, and their whirlwind romance and marriage in 1951, he turned his hand to real estate development, acquiring and developing tracts of land in Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Markham. In 1978, with his beloved Diana, David embarked on a new chapter, moving to "Edgewater" Bermuda. It was at this time that he expanded his real estate operations to the Turks and Caicos Islands where he was a commercial developer for over 20 years, and benefactor to many less fortunate. A loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and advisor, mentor and friend to all of his children, David's keen mind, insightful observations, opinions and sage advice will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends at GRACE CHURCH ON-THE-HILL, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto on Saturday, August 17 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations may be made to the SPCA or the charity of your choice.
