Obituary of Kenneth Langmuir

Kenneth Macklem Langmuir An exceedingly good man and the patriarch of our family has passed away of natural causes, peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 after 91 years of giving and receiving love. Ken has rejoined his adored wife, and our mother Joyce, who passed on 11 years ago, and now awaits his children Peter, Wendy and Michael, his grandchildren Christopher, Stephen, Alexandra, Victoria and Morgan and his great-grandchildren Anna, Lucy and Lilli in Heaven. Ken risked everything to defend the freedom of others by becoming a Spitfire pilot over Europe in the Great War and leading other, less experienced pilots so that they might survive in air combat. Ken was one of those rare individuals who never spoke ill of another. He was loved and respected by all he met, without exception. He taught everyone around him to accept the victories and defeats of life with grace and he led by example, not by lecture, in both business and private life. Since the loss of his wonderful and artistic wife Joyce, Ken has lived at the Bradgate Arms in Toronto and would wish to say a special goodbye to all of the friends he had there and to thank them for their warmth and companionship. Thanks also to his wonderful caregivers and the dedicated staff of Sunnybrook Hospital. A celebratory memorial service will be held at the CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER, (NE corner of Bloor St. W. and Avenue Rd.), Toronto, on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will be held immediately afterward at The Badminton and Racquet Club, 25 Clair Avenue West, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Intensive Care Unit c/o Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto M4N 3M5. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
