Eric Fleming
Passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 in the presence of family after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. The youngest of three children, he was born on October 24, 1927 in Glasgow, Scotland to Jeannie Mitchell and Samuel Fleming. Cherished husband for 54 years of Constance Fleming who predeceased him in 2010, Eric is survived by his loving daughters Karen and Rhona, his sons-in-law Steve and John, and beloved grandchildren Eric, Samantha and Matthew. Eric served in the Royal Navy in the Pacific from 1945 to 1947. Following this service, he worked in municipal government in Scotland. Eric immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1964 after being recruited to work for the Ontario Government where he rose to the level of Assistant Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs. He retired as the Chairman of the Greater Toronto Coordinating Committee in 1989. He was an active member of the Royal Naval Association and a loving devoted grandparent during his retirement. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Drive, on Wednesday June 12 at 1:00 p.m. Internment in St. John's York Mills Anglican Cemetery to follow.
