To Sue and family Mary and I will be thinking of you over the next few days, and in our prayers, wishing much comfort and tranquility, knowing your mother is at peace, and making her heavenly transition. You were close over all the years, so there will be many memories to cherish forever. And you can take great solace in the care you provided; she would have treasured and felt loved for all the relaxed time and consideration you provided. We missed Peggy in the last few years, being in Calgary made visits less frequent. But we have many photos to look back on and remember her amiable and outgoing persona. My memories of Aunt Peggy, as she was named, go back into the 1950's when she was one of the three Finns. Aili and Ellen were the other two. They came to know each other in Toronto, and somehow Peggy and Aili ended up in Montreal. Aili married my Dad, and over the years, the three ladies continued to get together. Eventually, Aunt Peggy and I were the only two left in Montreal. When Mary and I were just getting to know each other, she invited us to dinner in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, which included her delicious apple pie. Mary loves a good pie. As the years passed, we reciprocated as she would often visit for the weekend at the Lake Carmi cottage, including when studying for her B.A. degree, and later in Lake Brome. Apple pie usually accompanied her. She was at our 1982 wedding in Toronto, but no apple pie that day. When our son was three, Aunt Peggy joined me when I took him skiing for the first time at Owl's Head in the Eastern Townships. She thought he was a little young, but he managed well. To give her a break, I suspect we might have bought an apple pie at the nearby Mrs. Perkins Bakery on the way home. But she had not retired from the kitchen. When she moved to Oakville, with Mary's parents in Toronto, the Christmas period was the best opportunity to visit in person. More apple pie! Then in 1997 we moved to Calgary, and the visits diminished; phone calls continued, but alas, not the apple pie. She did love cards, and sports. One of my favourite pictures is a May 2007 snap of her holding a golf trophy for a hole-in-one, done later in life when many people are no longer able to play. I loved playing cribbage with her, and she won when I visited one of the earlier residences, likely sometime in 2008. The June 2009 visit was the last for me, almost four years ago, but the picture and memories are still fresh, and heartening to see the wonderful care she was receiving. This is no doubt one of many memorable stories her acquaintances could relate. She was a wonderful to me, and Mary, and our son Michael. We loved her. Terry, Mary and Michael Phillips
