Dr. Jim Gracie: First please accept my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your wife. i am writing as the daughter of the late Squadron Leader G. E. Thompson (known as Alan), who died after the plane caught fire in March 1944 over England. It was a training flight; the other person in the plan was a Flying Officer J. P. Gracie, who fortunately made it to safety. I read the marvellous description of this person when he received the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1945. Is that person you? PLEASE be kind enough to answer this. Thank you so much, Sandra Thompson Sebastian (ps I was born in Moncton in June 1943 after my father had returned to England), but returned to England shortly afterwards. My mother lived near Winchester when my father was killed.

Dear Dr. Gracie, Lyn, Sue, Trish and Jimmy. I was so sad to hear that Mrs. Gracie had passed. She was such a wonderful woman and dear friend to my mother for over 60 years. I will always remember how supportive and caring she was to me in the fall of 1995 after a terrible hurricane in St Maarten sent me and my young daughter Nicky back to Toronto. I will never, ever forget her kindness.

Dear Gracie Family. We were so saddened to hear of the death of dear Lil. Our Kimbark families were truly examples of how it takes a "village" to raise a child. We "kids" were so blessed to have so many wonderful parents to guide us and love us. There were always safe havens wherever we were, and the Gracie household was a wonderful example of "family and love". Please accept our deepest sympathy. Lil was an exceptional lady and all our memories are of the kind, generous and lovely person she was. With much love, Bill, Carolyn, Michael, Caitlin and Lauren Treadgold.

It is unfortunate that we learned of Mrs. Gracie's death while travelling. Otherwise we would have expressed our condolences and mention our fond memories in person to Sue and Stewart and Sue's brother and sisters, and to the grandchildren. We were very lucky to know so many of the Gracie family as neighbours and through York Downs. We will remember Mrs. Gracie (she was never 'Lil to us youngsters) as a very thoughtful and positive person -- a welcoming person. If there is anything that we can do for you, please let us know. (We are still in the York Downs directory.)

Lil, Lil's obit in the Globe and Mail made me think of a wonderful woman with a dazzling smile and a wonderful gentle laugh. It brought memories of the Gracie and Moxon families having cottages on Georgian Bay near Midland sharing hours of beach and swimming time every day for two summers. Jim and Lil had four children and we had three and they were all very young and it was busy. We kept in touch over the years until we moved away from Toronto and even after. Lil always seem calm and able to cope with anything and made life interesting and, as well, we had the good luck of having Jim as our family practioner before the cottage experience and after of course. Their family and granchildren have lost a great lady. Peggy Moxon (now of Perth, Ontario)

Bob and I send our condolences to the whole Gracie family. Bob has often run into you Sue and Stuart and your mom and dad at York Downs and I was so happy to see you there about a year ago. My sister and I have also met up with your mom at Bruno's...always a pleasure. Your mom was definitely the epitome of a "lady". By some strange twist of fate your mom and my mom passed away on the same day. It was while checking my mom's death announcement in the paper that we learned of your mom's passing. Maybe they will get together and talk about old times! Thinking of you all.

Some of my fondest memories are those with the Gracies back in the 60's and early 70's, when our families shared Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter every year, alternating location each occasion. Aunt Lil, as we called her, was the personification of kindness, with a clever sense of humour, and had a way of maintaining calm. I wish I had had more time with her in my adult years. This wish applies as well to my adopted cousins Lyn, Sue, Trish and Jim, and of course my unofficially adopted Dad Dr. Jim Gracie. There's not enough room here for all my thoughts, just dig up the old slides and remember! My Love to all, Gord

My condolences on the great loss of Lil- a warm, compassionate, fiercely intelligent woman with a great sense of humour. People gravitated toward Lil's energy and sparkling smile. Lil helped many throughout her life. Lil's greatest pride was in her beautiful and accomplished family. Aptly named through marriage to Dr. Jim, she was grace itself. I will miss her greatly.

I remember Aunt Lil's laugh, her beautiful face and smile, her sense of humour and her energy. I have a very strong memory of her taking me to the Toronto Zoo when I was little, probably when my Dad was in hospital and Mum needed someone to look after me. All the Christmas dinners the Grays and Gracies shared defined Christmas for me. And I loved it when Aunt Lil and Uncle Jim would come up to the cottage for visits - they were fun, funny and kept my Mum company when she was lonely. I treasure my memories of her, and though I'm far away, I am keeping the whole family in my heart.

I have so many happy memories of Lil,Jim and the Gracie clan. We spent many fun times together, at the cottage or skiing in Muskoka. Lil was such a wonderful woman who always showed such great interest in the lives of the Bell girls. She was a dear friend of our parents, Doug and Muriel Bell. The last time that we saw Lil was when she visited for Muriel's 90th birthday in Huntsville. The picture of Muriel and Lil hugging has been on my fridge for 2 years. We will remember her fondly. Our most heartfelt sympathies to the families on the passing of Mrs. Gracie. Like my siblings, I have fond memories of the times that the Gray and Gracie families spent together in the 60's and 70's. I appreciated Mrs. Gracie's wisdom and humour, and her calm and caring disposition. Owen
