I worked with Royden at the Royal Bank as one of his assistants. He was a kind patient teacher, always a true gentleman.
There is an adage - "Be ashamed to die until you have done something worthwhile for someone." Royden's benevolent sojurn on earth reflected positive rays of light to so many he encountered along the myriad paths of life. Sincere condolences to his wife, sons and family. He will be truly missed.

I started my career at Richardson Securities in Toronto in 1968, however it wasen't until I returned to my birthplace, Charlottetown, in the early 80's that I got to know Royden. He was enthusiastic both in work and play and earned the respect of his associates. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Roderick

Words are difficult to express the sorrow I feel for Royden's untimely passing.My deepest sympathy to Bev,Ronald ,Bryden and Quinn and the entire Richardson family at this difficult time.He and Bev were a delight to be with and was enormously proud of his boys and I'm sure they will and have prospered from his guidance and love.Royden was one of my best friends from the moment of meeting him in 1987 upon moving to Toronto and thoroughly enjoyed his Fly-Ins to Lk. Rosseau and in the right seat on a few occasions.Royden was exceptionally generous with his time and interest in any one he met almost resembling a boyish curiosity with the world.His advice was always well thought out and I cherish and treasure his words of wisdom.He certainly made me think in a different manner and I became a better person for it.I will never forget you Rooper.

A real tragedy! Royden departed this world far too soon - a very bright light extinguished. Royden was respected and loved by so many. My special memories come from sharing a table with Royden and Bev at various special dinners at the Westin Bayshore hotel in Winnipeg when George was C.E.O. of Richardson Greenshields. George always spoke very highly of Royden, and I thought Royden and Bev were a wonderful couple. Wishes of deepest sympathy from Isabelle Wright and family (Joe, Ken, Doug, Roberta and Dick). SYMPATHY with NATURE is a part of the good man's religion.- F.H. Hedge.
While we attended U of M.together,I recall his passionate JA beginnings and devotion to others. He helped so many through mentorship and was an exceptional role model.
"The early bird gets the worm", one of his many sayings.
The wonderful carefree younger days,cruising Lake of the Woods, Phi Delta Theta "formals" before and after parties, helping him purchase his first house,and checking out the " flight paths". I learned more about investments and mortgages from him then anyone else. All his Great West Life and Hudson Bay predictions came true! Working on his Dad's election campaign,the first time I voted and this sparked a life-long interest in politics.I always hoped he'd follow in his Dad's footsteps.
Royden lived life to the fullest, he really broke the mold. He was so down to earth and caring about others, always " giving back".
My heart-felt thoughts of sympathy are extended to the entire family. So many loved Royden, living in Winnipeg, Toronto and elsewhere.
Please accept my wishes of peace and comforting memories in this time of great sadness. He will be truly missed and was not finished, he still had lots to share.

I first met Mr. Richardson when i was about 11 or 12. It was The first day of sailing lesson for the season. He knew who i was instantly and walked over to me saying "i was best friends with your uncle growing up at the lake so you and my son should be great friends." he introduced us and that started a great friendship with his son. As i grew up at the lake i spent more and more time at thier cabin on Gunclub and i got to know Mr. Richardson well as my best friends father who always tried to allow us to "be boys" as well as teaching us how to be safe while we do it. Today i no longer go down to the lake and i never go to the yacht club anymore. Most people there assume that i am a "bad seed" to but it bluntly. Royden never gave me that feeling. As me and hes son grew up and apart still everytime i saw him or Bev they would go out of thier way to take an intrest in my life. This is not common for me espeacially at lake of the woods. I Guess i just wanted to say thank-you to you and your family for making me feel so welcome in a place where many people look at me differently. Thank-you so much for that.

I am shocked and saddened by the news of Royden's sudden passing. I am reflecting on the motiving discussion I had with Royden about our company and our industry only a week ago in Montreal. I left the conversation with optimism, respect and pride that a man of his character would take the time to share his knowledge with me.
That Man is a Success
Who has lived well, laughed often and loved much;
Who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children;
Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;
Who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;
Who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it.
Who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.
Robert Louis Stevenson

Royden was a great partner and friend. One of the few flawless individuals in the securities business - tremendous integrity, humility and humanity - rare qualities. He seemed to do everything so effortlessly which was rather annoying for the rest of us - never aged or gained an ounce of weight either. Royden had a infectious/boyish curiousity about everything, particularly anything engineering related. As we were neighbors and travelling to the same office at RG, I fondly recall Royden being delighted to tell me (every day) his average speed, gas consumption, travel time etc when BMW came out with a new gizmo to measure such things, or that he had found a new or shorter route to the office and how that compared to other routes as measured by the gizmo. I will miss his stories about the cottage and flying as well. Most of all he loved his family, and was so proud of the boys. When we would get together, most of the discussion would be an update of what Bev and the boys were doing and how excited he was to see the boys becoming good successful men. He was taken from us far too soon and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are prayers are with you Bev, Ronald, Bryden and Quinn.
