We are so blessed to have lived across the street from Hugh. He was a wonderful man who led a wonderful life, always giving to the community. We will miss his smiling face, and Irish wit.

We've lost Parklea Street's most vital and cherished neighbour, Hughy. Hugh embraced diversity, he would be always the first to welcomed you to the neighbourhood egardless of your race, gender, age, or religious orientation. Hugh would spend his days sitting on his porch waving to passerbys and taking his daily strolls in the streets of Leaside often stopping to talk with neighbours. He had a way of making people feel welcomed and accepted. His life was about connecting with his family, connecting with his neighbours, and connecting with his neighbourhood. He keenly kept a watchful eye for any suspicious activity in the neighbourhood and would be the first person to notice and report anything that was out of sorts. He was an intensely self-sufficient and hardworking man with a positive outlook in life. He would often be seen tinkering around his house and helping fellow neighbours with theirs. Whether it mowing the lawn, shovelling the walkway, or just having a conversation, Hugh will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others. His good deeds brought out the best in people. He will be deeply missed for his loving and generous spirit.

We will dearly miss you Hugh...your smile, thoughtfulness, kindness, laugh, selflessness, kind acts, and wisdom. You were like family in our neighborhood, always taking care of those around you. Leaside will not feel the same without you. May you rest in peace Hugh, as you smile down on us in Heaven.

Hugh was such a genuine man and wonderful neighbour. To us, he was the "Mayor of Parklea", always looking after everyone's interests. He took great care of our "community". We will miss him, and our front porch chats, so much.

I've grown up in Leaside since I was 2 years old (am now almost 23), and Hugh has been my neighbour that whole time. He was a wonderful, loving man, always watching out for us when we were kids. He always walked around the neighbourhood and waved to me when I came home from school. His little acts of kindness, such as dragging garbage bins in from the curb, will not be forgotten. I will miss seeing Hugh sitting on his front porch, smiling, when I return home to Leaside. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
