Dear cousin June, I remember your visits to Chicago. You usually stayed with my Aunt Helen. Sometimes you would come over to our house, too. My mom an dad are Joe and Lynn Joseph. I even remember coming to Toronto to visit you. I am very sorry to hear that Johnny passed away in April. My dad died twelve years ago. My mom is still alive and quite independent at 88. My Aunt Marlene is doing fine inspite of some health issues. My mom and Aunt Marlene have lunch once a month with Alma Mavros and her sister Kay Jacobs. They also see the other cousins. I remember Patrick and Wendy. I know how much they loved their dad and how he adored them. I pray you are comforted by the precious memories of your life together. Please accept my deepest sympathies, Sue Joseph (Off)

Dear June and family. I was sad to hear of Johnny's passing. My memories of Johnny go back to the '70's and '80's when I worked as an "isolation director" for the CFL football broadcasts for 15 years. I respected and honoured Johnny during this period of close relation ship. I am sorry that Donna and I could not attend his funeral. He will be sadly missed.

Pat I was saddened to read of your father’s death. It has been many years since your dad coached our Thornhill hockey team. Besides being an icon in sports broadcasting, he was also a great father. Somehow he also found the time to fit us into his busy schedule. My condolences to you and your family

All my life, you have been an inspirational voice as a broadcaster, but you became a champion with all the time you donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and our annual walks, first attended by our family after my father's heart attack and subsequent recovery with Toronto Rehab. Goodspeed.

I had the opportunity to work with Johnny through several Winter Olympics after arriving at CTV in 1976. We were always able to relate as broadcasters and his passion, talent and commitment to quality programming were an inspiration. Equally important, Johnny was a dedicated family man which served to remind busy broadcasters like me that a good home life was something to be nurtured and treasured. Nancy joins me in sending sincere condolences to June and children.

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Esaw. Mr. Esaw’s guidance, kindness, and consideration launched many Canadian television broadcasting careers. Mr. Esaw was a supporter of Canadian sports, and fledgling TV producers. He recognized the importance and connection that independently produced broadcast sports coverage could deliver to audiences, and sponsors. His accessibility, and genuine interest in sports and Canada broadcasting made him a true pioneer of the time. It was one such meeting he consented to take, from an un know independent television producer, who “had a show”,… that lead to a broadcast on Wide World Of Sport, and eventually a Gemini Award. This is but one small example of his great impact. Thank you Mr. Esaw for the contributions to Canadian sports broadcasting, and the inspiration you gave myself, and of so many others. May you Rest In Peace.

I remember Mr. Esaw from Winnipeg in the early 50s. As a child, I thought it hysterical that two men - my father and our neighbor - could have the same first name. I was convinced that the voice on the radio was my father in disguise. I remember Mrs. Esaw trying to explain it to me in our backyard. My parents were very proud of Johnny - both personally and professionally - and remained friends through all the years, as both ended up in Toronto. Mr. Esaw's contribution to Canadian sports is greatly appreciated and his Order of Canada richly deserved. I remember him fondly and wish to express my sincere condolences to June and the family.
