Marguerite Davis

Obituary of Marguerite Davis

Matriarch/diva to the Davis, Clark, Griffiths and Gray families, passed away peacefully at Belmont House on March 28th in her 103rd year. Predeceased by her loving husband Alfred H. Davis and her brothers Al & Doug Clark and sister Betty Griffiths, Marguerite was mother to William (Linda), Douglas (Janet), Alfred (Martha) Davis and Sue (Donald) Comish. She was the loving and proud 'Nanny' to her 14 grandchildren Christopher (Petra), Tobin (Sheila) and Eric (Tamara) Davis; Rick (Pam) and Michael (Susie) Comish, Leeanne Comish (Gord Cutler), Martha (Matt) Angus and Carolyn (Andrew) Carragher; Douglas, Patrick, Jon and Meredith Davis (Morgan Boyco); Lily Frost (José Contreras) and Mathew Davis, as well as 20 great-grandchildren. She was also the adored 'Aunt Marg' of the extended Clark, Griffiths and Gray families. From her earliest childhood, Marguerite loved Lake Muskoka, where she spent 100 summers (originally going by train). She instilled in her family a deep respect and love for the birds, animals, fish, white pines and sparkling waters of "the lake". No one will ever make a wild blueberry pie like she did. She graduated from the University of Toronto in Household Sciences in 1932 and was an active member of the KKG fraternity, celebrating her 80th year of membership in 2010. She attended Lawrence Park Community Church for over 60 years, taking part in the UCW activities with enthusiasm. To the end "Mom" or "Nanny Davis" retained an active interest in the activities of her family. She was always enquiring about who was doing what and the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while offering sage advice to those embarking on life's adventures. We will always remember her hosting the annual Christmas Eve party (a tradition that started with her parents), where up to 60 members of the family gathered to share with her stories of the past year. A strong woman with a keen intellect and true sense of curiosity, we will miss her very much. For the last 8 years, Marguerite has lived at Belmont House and enjoyed wonderful friendships with many of the residents. The family wishes to offer special thanks to her personal caregiver Jocelyn, the other caregivers from Eldercare and all the nursing and support staff at Belmont House. We also thank all who have visited Marguerite over the past few years. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Wednesday, April 10th at Lawrence Park Community Church, 2180 Bayview Avenue, Toronto M4N 3K7. A funeral service will be held at the church on Thursday, April 11th at 11 o'clock. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lawrence Park Community Church "Light the Steeple Fund", or to a charity of your choice.
