Obituary of Elizabeth Kaliciak

Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Kaliciak (nee Donald) Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2013, with her loving husband Frank by her side. Betty was born in Toronto in 1929 to Robert and Violet "Vi" Donald (nee Lyttle). She attended North Toronto Collegiate high school and the University of Toronto, graduating with a BA in English at just 16 years old. Unusual for the time, Betty travelled to Europe on her own, and in her twenties had a career at Prudential Insurance. She married Frank in 1960 and they raised three children together, Paul, Karen and Trish. After her children were grown, Betty embarked on a second career as a supply teacher with the Catholic School Board, teaching both primary and secondary grades. She took great pleasure from it, and only stopped when Frank retired so they could indulge in their passion for travel, taking several trips to Europe. Betty loved sports and was an avid golfer from an early age thanks to her dad. A mutual love of golf gave reason for Betty and Frank to escape Canadian winters to Naples, Florida, and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Betty will be remembered for always having a book on the go; for being a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's; and, above all, for being part of "a great love affair" with her devoted husband. She will be missed dearly by her son Paul, daughters Karen and Trish, son-in-law Dick Snyder, grandchildren Harry, Stella and Trisha, and sisters Patricia Pope, Jacqueline Gooderham and brother-in-law Dean Gooderham. As "Auntie Bettie," she will be remembered warmly by nieces and nephews Diane, Stephen, Martha, Robert, David and Sue. The family wishes to thank Dr. T. Fecycz for his longtime dedication and care. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 31. A private funeral mass will be held Monday, April 1. Betty will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
