We were very lucky to be able to enjoy Elma's garden from the opposite side of the street. I took this photo in 1979 of Elma raising a Canadian flag after she & Jim had spent 3 weeks cleaning up the garden, while Jim brandished the water hose.

Elma and Jim were dear friends of Tricia's parents, the Laurence's. We became friends as a result. The Harrop's tradition of having us over for Thanksgiving dinner was a highlight of the harvest season. We enjoyed Elma's company through the many years in Deep River and she became our neighbor when she moved into the Centennial Apartments. We were saddened when she moved to Toronto. Elma was a great Lady. She was much loved and we wish to express our sorrow to Corrine for such a tragic loss.

Elma was our Guardian Angel across from us on Thomas Street for many years as she kept an eye on everything going on, through her keen interest in her surroundings, be they animals, birds or people. She would kindly and cheerfully let us know if anyone was bothering our apple tree. She also let us know how many birds our cat got in her back yard, but in such a friendly way we could only sympathize with her. She is an unforgettable person whom we greatly loved, and were sad when she had to move, but were happy to get her Christmas letter every year. Thank you Corinne and Bob for all your help to her.

27 years ago when we moved to Deep River from the USA, young parents breaking ground for a new life, we were blessed to live across the street from Elma and Jim Harrop. Their warm parently friendship to us lasted through many years. We will never forget their kindness and the many wonderful memories over a cup of tea, especially in the beautiful terraced garden. Our prayers are with you Corrine and family.

We were friends at Cold Lake a million years ago (1954-56). May God be with you all at this difficult time.
