Obituary of Wilbur Pierce
Wilbur Clark Pierce: "Wib" to all that knew him, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 after a long battle with Cancer. That battle like his first in WW2 was fought with dignity, distinction, and always with his humour present.Wib was born in Reston, Manitoba in 1921, and is predeceased by his amazing wife of 59 years, Eve (nee Yurach) from Big River Sask., and his brothers and sisters. He was the last of that generation. He is survived by his son Fred and his wife Chris and wonderful grand children (he was very proud) Michelle and David.Wib fought with distinction as a WW 2 pilot on Lancs, and Halis. He was a RCAF Squadron Leader in 433 Squadron at Skipton on Swale, and earned a DFC. He did one complete tour, and then stayed on for 6 more trips. His crew always affirmed that he was the only reason they made it home. Wib was a big supporter of several Air Museums and Veteran initiatives.Wib and Eve spent many years with Simpson's Sears, (now SEARS) from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. They traveled with Sears from Dauphin to Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Port Arthur, Burlington, Saskatoon and Mississauga. His great joy with Sears was promoting those that were worthy. He was a good old fashioned common sense Merchant that knew what it took to achieve success. He made many great friends and had very fond memories from his travels across the country. In adhering with Wib's wishes, a private family service has taken place. In his memory, please "thank a Veteran" whenever you have the opportunity.
