Obituary of Winifred Raeburn
Winifred Raeburn (Winnie)
Passed away peacefully in Toronto on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the age of 93. Born in Horden, England on March 19, 1919, Winnie had a modeling career in London until WWII began. She then joined the Women's Auxillery Air Force (W.A.A.F.) and was a switchboard operator on the front lines of Dover.
Her beauty earned her the honour of becoming the "Pin-up Girl" for the Malta Garrison and the R.A.F. in the Middle East.
While serving her country, Winnie met Lee Raeburn, a dashing Canadian drummer, who was on tour with the Swingtime Show, entertaining the troops.
In 1948 she moved to Toronto and they were married.
Winnie enjoyed watching her husband Lee lead the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 66 Pipe Band as their Drum Major. She also attended every musical performance of both her husband and daughter Valerie. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother, who will be greatly missed.
Wiinie is predeceased by her beloved husband Lee and their infant daughter Louise. Left behind to cherish her memory is her loving daughter Valerie Pitalo and husband Mike of Biloxi, Mississippi.
We wish to thank the staff at Extendicare Bayview for their exceptional care and kindness.
