I was very saddened to learn of Len's passing. Although we didn't work together directly, I always enjoyed running into his friendly, smiling face in the hallway and having conversations about a wide range of topics. He was a person of many interests but his compassion for his students and teaching always came across. He will be missed by them and those of who had the privilege of working with him. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and students.

Nancy, Crystal & William, First & foremost I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Mary & I were inseparable throughout high school which meant I became an honorary Charbonneau. I liked to refer to your Dad as my “MUCH older” brother. I was in awe of both Lenny’s and Mary’s true dedication & devotion to their Mom & Dad (we could all learn something from that). I’m sure you know that your husband/dad has touched so many lives but I what I never told him was that because of Mary & his influence I applied to and was accepted at Gallaudet University for their interpreter program. I would like to say that I am now an interpreter but truth be told my extreme anxiety of public speaking clearly was an issue. I had a patient in the office on Tuesday night who happens to be an interpreter and I mentioned that my childhood friend who happened to teach had passed and she asked if it was Len Charbonneau. So long story short your husband, dad & brother has made a profound difference in so many lives…not many people can say that. He was a one in a million and we shall all miss him. We have been blessed to have known him. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Nancy, Crystal and William, Professor Len Charbonneau has taught me in a course in Adult Education and Teaching Methods at George Brown College in 1987. He is described as best, effective, and champion professor with fluent ASL skills in teaching Deaf students who have enjoyed positive learning experience in gaining knowledge and appreciation of adult education teaching techniques. His course and teaching skills enabled to develop my mastery skills in teaching adults to apply their experiences and learning in the world of adult education. We celebrate the life of Professor Leonard Charbonneau's contribution to Deaf community who have enjoyed the Toronto, Ontario and Canada life and Toronto Association of the Deaf activities for many years. Len, thank you for making a wonderful difference and you are always part of our lives and we will always cherish your champion teaching and sense of humour in the classroom and TAD social activities......We salute Len..... As a colleague at GBC, Len and I had many good conversations about our respective Graduate courses and programs and I cherish my last conversation with him.

I have had the pleasure of working with Len through many Deaf stream literacy workshops and conferences over the years, plus on projects. Len has always shown a great passion for teaching and making sure everything was explained the right way instead of just accepting it as good enough. This character trait made everyone better for having been around Len, whether it was teaching, learning or just social. Len will be greatly missed at GBC, at Deaf stream workshops and on projects, and this is a great loss for the whole Deaf community. Another interesting part about Len that makes it special for me ... when my mother decided to learn ASL about 10 years ago, she joined a class - and her teacher was Len. Funny thing? A few years earlier, Len took a Central Michigan University Master's course through GBC and his teacher was my mother. Small world. My mother described him as a "lovely man" and really enjoyed working with him, both in the ASL course and in the CMU course.

To the Charbonneau, I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Len came to see me during the summer at Sunnybrook Hospital and I was really amazed to see him there. I was fortunate to have Len as thoughtful as he was, to visit me but I aslo had him for my English class and favorite subject called "What's Up" class. I could tell that he was a great teacher from the first day I started the Deaf Upgrading Program and knew he would be the best teacher especially in the deaf atmosphere. Without Len's teaching English Essay, I wouldn't know how to write one and Len was always the one that helped me out. There is no one like Professor Len Charbonneau, and I am glad I had the chance to be in his class and most of all, that I had the pleasure to have met him and had the chance to travel the same path with him. He ws an extremeley amazing person with a very good sense of humor and will greatly be missed. God Bless

Dear Nancy, William and Crystal, I am so sorry for your loss of your dear Len. My sincere sympathy and prayers are with you at this sad time. Until I retired this past June, I was the Literacy and Basic Skills government field consultant for GBC and I had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with Len for many years. I watched his excellent teaching skills with the Deaf learners. It was obvious that he enjoyed his job and the students respected and liked him. Len was an outstanding teacher and the Deaf Literacy field in Ontario has lost one of its best. Len and I had many lively discussions. We had a mutual respect and affection for each other because we each knew that our focus was on what was best to help the Deaf students reach their goals. He will be greatly missed at GBC and by his Deaf literacy colleagues across the province. I know he will always be in your hearts. May you find comfort and peace as you grieve.

He is very passion, funny, sense of humour and very noble person. He would listen and outspoke his words. I had my chance to work with him, to chat with him and to listen with him. There is no one like him in this earth can match him. We are going to miss him very dearly and will always remembered him and laughed with him.
