Obituary of Joan Bramwell
Joan Bernice
(nee McDonell)
December 9, 1925 - October 4, 2011
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at The Annex Retirement Residence. Loving wife of the late George Eric Bramwell. Loving mother of Cherril Baker of Toronto, Jo of Moose Jaw, Ric (Kit Holmwood) of Ottawa, Jane (Michael McQueen) of Etobicoke and Kath Peace of Bamfield, Bill Bramwell of Ottawa. Predeceased by her brothers Archibald and Guy and her sister Betty (Harris). Grandmother to Bramwell Baker (Pascaline Phillips), Nathan Bramwell-Colyer, Liz Bramwell-Colyer, Jessica McQueen, Carlyn McQueen, Guy Holmwood-Bramwell, and Ariel Holmwood-Bramwell. Great-grandmother to Erica, Julian and Naiad.
Joan was born and raised in Winnipeg. Following school she worked for a time as a model in the fashion business, developing a sense of style that stayed with her throughout her life. Joan and Eric were married in 1949, and as a military spouse she was home-maker and mother to her growing family while establishing a network of life-long friends through numerous moves across Canada and in Europe. Joan's life was centered on her family and community, though for her culinary skills her kids would say her kitchen was where she reigned supreme. While raising her family Joan found time to enjoy curling, church choir, hone a passion for bridge, maintain a string of coffee klatches with her neighbours, as well as working outside the home in a variety of positions. Upon retiring, Joan and Eric returned to Winnipeg and their prairie roots. Lately Joan had been living in Toronto. Joan will be remembered as a super mom, grandmother and great-grandma by her loving family. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Annex Retirement Residence for their thoughtful care. Interment will take place in Winnipeg. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
