Obituary of Nancy Stewart

Nancy Helen Barry Stewart (nee Watson) August 13, 1922 to December 21, 2012 After a brief illness, Nancy passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012, at North York General Hospital, surrounded by her family, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Craignethie Stewart, Nancy will be greatly missed by her sons Cameron (Nathalie) and David, daughter Heather (Clarke), grandsons Christopher, Edward, Samuel and Ian, and great-grandson James. Born in Toronto, Nancy was the daughter of the late McClelland Barry and Ethel Lillian Watson. Nancy was predeceased by her two brothers, Cameron and Barry. Nancy earned her degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto and served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps at a veterans' hospital in Quebec City and later at Chorley Park and Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, nursing soldiers returning from World War II with burns and other injuries. During her married life, Nancy devoted a great deal of her time, energy and expertise volunteering for Deer Park United Church, Central Hospital, and Big Sisters of Toronto. The family members wish to express their deepest appreciation for the exemplary care given to Nancy by the nursing staff and doctors at North York General Hospital. Nancy's family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), Toronto from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19th, 2013, followed by a reception.
