Very sad news. Hoss was a guy who, in a room of 200 people, made you feel like you were the only one there when he spoke to you...... As with Mr. Mix, I will say a silent prayer over a glass of something he would have enjoyed. Keith C. Boulter

I am greatly saddened to have just heard of Hoss's passing. I remember fondly the way that I first met Hoss, at the "Hossapottamus Golf Tournament" from the Beaver Creek Keg days! Over the years I watched Hoss's soaring career in the hospitality industry with amazement and awe. We shared a pre-Christmas glass of wine this year, at Hy's, where Hoss was eagerly looking forward to future ventures, and excited about moving on. Hoss was someone who could make things happen. As simple as that sounds, very, very few people can claim this. I miss you already Hoss. My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. Bill Arvanitis Toronto.

My deepest sympathies to the Drees family. I am shocked and saddened to just hear of Hoss's untimely death this past Christmas. I too like many others knew Hoss from his days at The Keg. He interviewed me at The Markham Suites Hotel in 1989 and hired me to start at the Keg on East Beaver Creek. I remember standing in line hoping I would get the nice looking woman to interview me, feeling rather intimidated by his presence. I now know what a real teddybear he was. I am grateful he gave me chance, I thank him for the lessons he taught me about respect and customer service. Lessons I still live by today. Hoss was a very influential person in my life and I will miss bumping into him and hearing "Nurse Church, how are your darling?". Your son, uncle, friend left his mark on many lives. I am so sorry for your loss, Elisabeth White EBC Keg/Keg Mansion 1989-1998

We were greatly saddened to hear of the unexpected and all to early passing of Torsten. His big smile and bigger heart touched so many people. His success in the restaurant business was an accomplishment attempted by many but reached by so very few. We know that he was a good son, a loving brother and caring uncle. We will miss Hoss's laugh and his contagious smile and he will be remembered by all the Murphy's here in Nova Scotia... To Rose and Jenz, we wish that we could be there to express our condolences, however our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you at this time... Kevin & Nancy Murphy

I was shocked and saddened when I learned of Torsten's (Hoss) passing, he touched the lives of many people. I want to offer my deepest condolences and prayers to his family. I remember his Sunday night family dinners in the India room at the Mansion,it always seemed very important to him that he carve that special time out of his schedule for family and I know he adored his nephews. Many people pass through our lives in a life time, and many give us gifts through the things they teach us. When they are gone their spirit will always shine brightly through us as we pass their gifts along. I learned some valuable things from Hoss that I have carried with me on my journey and have had the pleasure of passing along. I pray Hoss is at peace and that he left knowing that he had a positive impact on the lives of the people he touched. Jacey Dean Keg Mansion 1998-2004

I was told the news today by Liz Sargeant of dear Hoss' departure and I am greatly saddened by it, may condolences to the Drees family and my heartfelt sympathies go to them at this sad time. I met Hoss when I was 21 through Liz and subsequently many times after that when I lived in Toronto for several years and then on subsequent visits from over the pond. He was always a special and a wonderful friend. He enjoyed life to the max and was quite clear about that but he always had a way of making you feel that what was going on in yours mattered too a lovely quality you felt as if you were on the ride too at the fair and always felt included even if there was a great crowd of you which there often was - he would often seek you out to find out what was going on with you. I am sure that many of his friends felt this way too about him. I remember his wicked sense of humour, wonderful smile, his wonderful full laugh and his rich voice and his enviable joie de vivre and I am sad and sorrowfull that I will not hear them again. Much love and kisses Je t'embrance tres forte et je pense de toi mon grande homme Hoss courage mon cher - Sammy xxoxoxoxox

Drees Family, I was shocked and very sad on hearing the news of Hoss's sudden death. I have worked with Hoss over the last 8 years as a Liquor vendor selling Jack Daniel's and many other fine Liquors & Wine to Keg Restaurant's, but over that time period we became close friends. I know this is a very hard time and I am deeply saddned that we won't have that fun loving, crazy Torsten "Hoss" Drees to talk, tell stories, drink with and enjoy his loving spirit. My condolences go to his family and friends. I will tip a glass of Jack Daniel's to Hoss and remember the fond memories!!!!!!!! "Cheers Hoss" With Love Murril Gash San Francisco

To the Drees family Hoss was someone I kept very close to my heart and as much as he meant to me I cannot even imagine the effect he had on his family. I am so sorry for your loss. Death cannot sever our connection to those we have lost. Hoss's soul is eternal and can never be extinguished. The bonds of his love are stronger then death and the lessons that he taught us from his goodness, his deeds and his wisdom will remain with us always. Hoss has left a permanent imprint upon our souls that can never be erased and he will continue to guide us where ever we go. May he continue to be with us; may he bless us and inspire us to goodness, in death as he did in life.

It was with great shock I heard of Hoss's passing. I first met him back in the late 80's when I was working as a sales rep for Molson Breweries and he was opening the new Keg at Hwy 7 and the 404. Hoss was a gentleman, friend and all around "man of the people" in the hospitality industry. I knew I made a friend the second we met and although our lives and careers drifted apart, I always would get the same big hand slap on the back when we'd meet eachother from time to time. His passion for people and warmth will always be remembered. God's Peace. Howie

Dear Drees Family, I am deeply saddened to hear that Hoss suddenly died on Christmas Day. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and sorrow. I met Hoss at the Leslie St Keg (back in the 80’s) where we waited on tables together ~ there was such a strong bond that developed between us all back then. Work didn’t feel like work because we were young and life was all about having fun and we did know how to have fun! I’ve seen Hoss many times since my Keg days and each time his arms were open with a welcoming hug and his smile was bright and filled with warmth. That’s the picture that comes to my mind when I think of Hoss. I hope that your memories comfort you in your loss and help ease your sadness. My deepest condolences, Maria

I am sorry I can’t be there in person to express my deep sympathy to Hoss’s family and close friends. Hoss’s smile filled the room. I was immensely fond of him and will cherish the memories I have. The world was a better place with Hoss in it. May he live on within our stories and thoughts. In sadness and sympathy, Nikki Lawder (The Keg, 1992 - 2001)

I wanted to offer my condolences to the Drees's family, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I knew Hoss through the Keg, he was our area partner when I first starting working for the Oshawa Keg. I can tell you that as soon as he entered the building there was a huge presence. Everyone knew that you better smile a little bit more, and work a little bit harder just because he was there. He was a very smart business man, who I looked up to. I also had the pleasure of working with Hoss during the opening of York St Keg, he took so much pride in that restaurant working the room and making sure that everyone knew who he was. And they did, everytime the regulars would stroll in, you can be sure they were asking "Where's Hoss"? Although I never has a close relationship with him, I admired him greatly. Be at peace, God Bless. Tara Asling Oshawa Keg 1997-2008
