Dear Richard; This is not quite the way I would normally express our condolences to you and your family but my writing has deteriorated and I felt at least you could read our thoughts. It was with a great sense of loss that we read of Beryl death. I particularly remember the days we shared on the Board of the AGO. This association with you both was reinforced when I sat on the Board of the Robarts. I hope that your many happy memories will help you through this difficult period of adjustment. Oscar joins me in expressing our heart felt sympathy. Sincerely, Joyce Kofman

Dear Dick and Family, It was with great sadness that I learned of Beryl's death. She was one of the most positive people I have ever met. Whenever we met, no matter the occasion, she had something positive to say about the event or about some other project she was involved with. She was one of those people that you look forward to seeing knowing that your day would be a little bit brighter. I will miss having that to look forward to. Kindest regards and deepest condolences, Gordon Osbaldeston

To Mr Richard Ivey and Family: On behalf of all the neurological and neurosurgery physicians and nurses and staff at University Hospital / London Health Sciences Centre, I extend our sincere condolences at Beryl's passing. Beryl, with Richard and her family, was the strongest and most devoted supporter of the neurological sciences unit in London. For several decades, dating back to Dr Charlie Drake's relationship with you, your visionary and philanthropic support provided for the establishment of the neuroscience unit and the advanced Xray technology used to help countless victims of brain and spinal diseases. This support was a key part of the development and eventual success of the country's and probably the world's top centre for neurological care. We remain forever in your debt. We will remember Beryl and her family in our thoughts and prayers, and cherish the memory of a great Canadian.

It is with great sadness I heard about the passing of Beryl. Though I only had the privilege of knowing her for a short time, she was a very energetic, kind, intelligent lady with a great sense of humour. My thoughts and heart felt sympathy are with you Richard, Suzanne, Dan and the rest of the family.

We were so saddened to read of Beryl's death, and rather surprised as she was seemingly in good health, and certainly in good spirits, at the Ivey Foundation Christmas party. What a dreadful shock it must have been! The description of her life that appeared in the Globe and Mail beautifully captured her character and contributions to the community. Everyone will also have his own special memories of Beryl: mine revolve around her love of nature and commitment to conservation. While she was a dynamic person with many interests and talents, I think her love of nature and passion for conservation, which were infectious, set her apart. She influenced so many people and set such a great example of how to respect and care for the natural world. I will always remember her for the beautiful trails and parks she helped to conserve on the Bruce Trail, the gardens she created on her own grounds and at UWO, and the enthusiasm with which she spoke about conservation. To a large extent, I think her love of nature defined her life and values, and certainly its expression through the conservation movement has been her lasting legacy in the community. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to have known and worked with Beryl, and to have been inculcated with her concern for the natural world. All good wishes, Marvi

Beryl hired me to do a tribute video for Dick's birthday (70th, I believe), on a referral from Bill Brady. Working with her was a delight. I'll never forget coming to the house for my very first meeting, a lunch meeting. Beryl had prepared crab salad; when I told her I don't eat crab, she was genuinely distressed and, within minutes, had whipped up an alternate. During our review of many photos, she chatted about her interest in World Wildlife, about the joy she and Richard had in seeing giant kamodo (?) dragons during an exotic trip, and all about the early years of her high school and university. She was nice to be around, and she made the whole process enjoyable. Please accept my sincere condolences--she seemed like quite a terrific person, and I'm sure you miss her terribly.

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Ivey. I remember the first time I met her nearly twelve years ago. She was warm, delightful, generous and welcoming, the way she always was whenever I met with her. She was an incredible woman and raised, along with Mr. Ivey, an amazing family, many of whom I have had the pleasure of working with. My thoughts are with Mr. Ivey, Jennifer, Roz, Suzanne, Richard and all of their families at this time. She left a wonderful legacy in many ways.
