On behalf of the ROM's Department of Museum Volunteers I want to put on record our immense gratitude to Joan for her foresight and spirit in helping to found the Members Volunteer Committee of the ROM, later to be renamed the "DMV". From small beginnings have grown in its fifty year history an organization of more than 600 members without which the ROM would have great difficulty in operating. She was the fifth president; I find myself the 45th. Without having the privilege of working with her, I salute her. Her work lives after her. With all best wishes, John C. Hurd, President, Department of Volunteers, Royal Ontario Museum

My condolences on the loss of your mother.I knew her as Joan Cowie when we served together in the Operational Intelligence Centre of the Canadian Navy in Ottawa during the war.I was the youngest male officer in the centre which I had joined in October 1941. It was a very pleasant change when young Wren officers like Joan joined the staff . I am now aware that I was younger than her as my year of birth is 1921.We had many pleasant conversations when on dull night watchduty especially when she kidded me after my marriage in May 1944 to an Ottawa girl.I trust that you may be supported by the fond memories of her Sincerely Alan Roffey

My Sincere Condolences to the family of Joan Fitzpatrick who I'll always remember as "Mrs.Fitzpatrick" the wonderful skating mom at the TCS&CC, and later as "Joan", a great inspiration when I briefly volunteered at the ROM hoping to become a docent. My marriage and life in Mulmur ON, and now in Qualicum Beach BC, has taken me in another direction, but it is always with great fondness I will think of her. Sincerely, Debbie Brooker-McKinley
