I just learned of Dr. Thomson's passing and was so saddened by the news. He was an amazing man who had a huge impact on my life. He did the first surgery on me at 6 months and there were a few others after. He was and is to this day my favourite Doctor. I remember him as being so kind and caring and I just adored him. I still can see his office wall covered with pics of his many patients. Every Dr. who I go to asks about me who did my facial surgeries as a child and when I mentioned who it was they all have a story and wonderful things to say. I brought him a cookie cake one day. On my next visit there was a pic of that cookie on the wall and as a 6 year old girl it made my day to have made it onto the wall:) He touched so many people and I am so very sorry for your loss. He was such a special person.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. T at Sick Kids while working in Admitting & on the O.R. desks. Always friendly, always singing & smiling - he was an excellent surgeon, easy going, fun to work with & an absolute gentleman. I'll always remember him wearing a shirt & tie, sneakers, labcoat, his wedding ring hanging from his glasses & eating a lollipop & hugging his patients & treating them like royalty.
The world has lost a brilliant man & a real blessing sent from God above.

Judy, Andrea, Dan & Melissa Virginia and I want to express our condolences to all of you on your loss. We have many fond memories of Hugh relating to the numerous hockey trips we took to tournaments involving Dan and the Leaside Kings. We also remember the fun times provided by the "little sisters". They were great supporters of the team. One memory of Hugh which comes to mind was his accident at a team gathering in our living room when he sat on the coffee table and broke the glass top. He was so apologetic and ended up replacing the glass in a matter of days. We often ran accross Hugh when we volunteered at Sick Kids. He always had time to stop and talk and on most occasions the conversation turned to our hockey days and experiences. He will be missed by all of us whose life he influenced. Virginia and Rick

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of 'Dr. T'. I knew him through his volunteer work with Transforming Faces Worldwide as part of our Medical Advisory Committee. Always wise, experienced, calm, and fun-loving, he made an indelible impact upon us all. To this day, we often cite his "Marmalade Principle" when considering funding projects, reminding ourselves not to spread our funding too thinly and rob it of its impact. That was pure 'Dr. T.' We offer our gratitude for his time with us, and our deepest condolences to all of his loved ones. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Nan Hudson, Director, Transforming Faces

Dr. Thomson was my daughter's reconstructive surgeon, beginning in 1981. Meeting Dr. "T" was a blessing in disguise. His direct connection to my daughter, Rebecca Karen, as well as his compassion for my wife and I: from the very first meeting, we knew that this was a special gentleman. Over a number of years, and many surgical procedures, this "Magician", along with the collective group of specialists helped to mould the character and, to some extent, the personality of my daughter. As Doctor Thomson was, she also became a confident, compassionate, loyal young woman. I personally, have never forgotten how much Dr. T. gave to my daughter; even when she was married last year, I contacted the good doctor, to allow him the oppportunity to see his artistry in action. She became a beautiful bride, and Doctor Hugh Thomson was foremost on my mind.
My family and I will forever be indebted to this special person; the "magician" with the wedding ring on his glasses.
Forever a portrait in my mind!

Sad to note Hugh's passing. Hugh and I were classmates in Medical School, class of 5T4. We lived close together in Toronto, and spent a lot of time walking back and forth to classes, over 6 years. We were also clinic mates for 3 years. Hugh was very bright, very witty, and a barrel of fun to be with. I have a few old photos of him in my scrapbook. I have not seen Hugh for many years, but it was a great pleasure watching him rise to the top of his profession at Sick Kids. I was not surprised!! My condolences to his family, John Moffat

Many of us met Hugh for the first time at the U of T and Dela Kappa Epsilon where Hugh resided while at the faculty of medicin along with a number of distinguished colleagues all of whom went on to careers of service in the medical profession; John Stalker, Joe Sladen, Doug Wigle, Doug Schatz, John Gordon. Together they were a team dedicated to caring for all but especially their friends and fraternity brothers. One Sunday night about 15 years ago my son Jamie arrived at the Sick Kids hospital emergency with his two year old son Hunter who hasd been scalded by an overturned coffee pot. At check in Hugh happened to be walking by and when he heard the name Deeks he asked Jamie if he was related to me. Jamie said yes and Hunter was my grandson. Hugh turned to the nurse and said he would look after this patient himself. When Hunter returned home he was without any mark from his ordeal. That was Hugh, forever caring and loyal to old friends. We are very sorry he is gone but his contribution to all will be forever remembered and his memory will never be forgotten. Sincerely, Bill Deeks
