Today, as I went to place a memorial wreath at Mount Hope Cemetery, I noticed two tributes on the Carmichael Grave.
I felt I had to see at close proximity if there was a reason. To my complete surprise and sadness, I saw the name Colleen Carmichael added to the grave marker.
I had the good fortune to know Mrs. Carmichael for many years as I worked at Eunice Denby Flowers. We were called upon for flowers for many happy occasions - Birthday parties, Holidays, remembering friends and wonderful Weddings. I recall Mrs. Carmichael's special Birthday at the Maclean House. I have many memories and they are all of meaning to me
To John, Pattie, Julie and Jill, along with their spouses and families, my heartfelt sympathy.
Nothing will replace CC but "as long as you think of me or mention my name, I live" is a wonderful phrase and assurance that she will live on the the hearts and memories of those who hold her dear.
Again, with heartfelt sympathy.

Dear John, Patti, Julie, and Jill,
Greatly saddened as I was to learn this news, what a run Mom had! As I was born in 1951, the year after your parents were married, and the fact that their summer home then was next door to my grandfather’s in Niagara-on-the-Lake, I can safely say I knew your Mom from my earliest months—though it was years later in Toronto, Rosedale, Lyford, and your summer home, that we really spent quality time together. How I loved Colleen. I always felt we had a special relationship, and though I haven’t seen her—or you regrettably, for far too many years, the memories of those great times, and of your mother, ring as clearly in my mind now as if they were yesterday. I hope you are all doing well and don’t hesitate to contact me if you’re in New York. I’d love to reconnect. But foremost now, may I extend to you all, and your families, my deepest sympathy for the loss of your extraordinary mother, and my dear friend. With much love, Bob

Dear John, Patti, Julie, Jill
It is hard to imagine your Mom, Colleen, absent when I visit Canada next. Aunt Rosemary and I did mention her in our prayers before I left Toronto last Tuesday. We were aware of recent news. Every time Aunt Rosemary wears purple I almost wonder, you can't do that, your colour is pink - that's Colleen's colour. I must say that they were great friends, and as I attested with John at a very young age when we caddied for them at Rosedale - they were also great rivals in sport. As we say in French - someone who pulls you to the top - quelqu'un qui te tire vers le haut - I think that amply describes your Mom (and Dad) in their strive for excellence. They pushed all of you to excel in your various domains.
I also liked that you referred to Colleen as CC. I know you use this diminutive with a certain meaning, but I cannot disassociate your sister from your Mother. The loss of your sister strengthened a bond between CC and Mrs Hatch, who had also suffered the loss of a daughter.
I wish to thank your family for the many, many times you have been hospitable to me and my family.
Yours very truly, and with fond memories,
Thomas Sceats et famille
