Eileen Hill

Obituary of Eileen Hill

HILL, Eileen Jackson Passed away peacefully in Toronto, surrounded by family on Thursday, November 8, 2012. She was a medical miracle, having survived lung cancer in her early forties, more than fifty years before she was finally taken from us. She will be missed by her children Susan (Scott), Nancy (Rodney), Doug and grandchildren Carolyn (Barry), Siobhan (Mark) and Sean (Megan) and many relatives in Canada and Ireland. Eileen was born in Winnipeg and moved to Toronto in her early years. She grew up in the east end of Toronto and raised her family in the Bennington Heights area. She enjoyed cottaging at Fairport Beach as a child and in Port Carling after her marriage. Eileen was a trail blazer and an early female graduate in Optometry at the University of Toronto during World War Two. She enjoyed a long career in eye care with her late husband, ophthalmologist Joseph C. Hill. She was a long-time active member of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church. Following in the Jackson family musical tradition, Eileen loved to play the piano and organ for several churches over the years, and she continued to play for herself and her family until her final hospitalization. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, especially at the cottage and when she was telling stories. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. We request donations be made to the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church Christian Education Fund or to the University of Toronto General Undergraduate Scholarships Fund (0560001863). Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
