John and I shared a long and special relationship. I first met him and Myrna at Grad Camp in 1980 when I was 16 years old. We hit it off straight away with our shared passion for trees. He kept tabs on me as I went through college for Forestry and my tree planting jobs, and was thrilled when I settled in the Yukon and eventually built my own cabin. I will always treasure the letters from John, so full of passion for understanding of so many diverse subjects. JP and I would like to express our deep and heartfelt sympathy to you, Myrna, in this time of sorrow and loss. John held a special light and we are certain his voice is booming in the choir in the heavens above.

In loving memory of our cousin John. We will allways remember his impecable voice and his great sense of humour which kept us enthralled with his stories whenever he visited us here in Montreal. He loved long walks down by the river and visiting Old Montreal. With with his great knowledge of history of our city ,it made it even more fun for us. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

I remember John as a hale and hearty colleague at the Ontario Archives - a character indeed but always helpful to me. He visited me in New Brunswick after his retirement and his energy and enthusiasm had not at all diminished - he was here to help a friend build some shelves. Myrna, please accept my condolences.
