Fun in the Turks, Kincardine and Don Mills, Martini parties, great food, laughs and lots of thrills. You've left us way too soon, we dare to say, but pray you're in a better place to-day. It is with great sadness and a very deep sense of loss that we say goodbye to our longtime and dear friend, Dawnie. When Wayne and Bob were young (and handsome) CA students in Winnipeg, the four of us became lifelong friends. We have shared many wonderful evenings partying and laughing together. The McLeod home is full of all of the wonderful handwork Dawn has gifted us with over the years. There is not a room in our house or cottage that does not have something that Dawn (or Susan) has made, gracing the walls or floors. We were very fortunate to have spent visits with Dawn and Bob over the past few months enabling us to reminisce over good times and bad. (We won't go into the maple syrup issue in Dryden). You will be missed but not forgotten. Words cannot do justice to all our warm memories. Au revoir Dawnie until we meet again. Love Wayne and Bev.

It was 6 years ago when I met my second family, the LaRues. I live in their Guest House as a tenant, a relationship which Dawn has changed; within a second we met, she was brushing my hair! Her name changed to Mama Bear. There is Papa Bear and I met Susan (aka Sister bear). The face of the LaRue family changed from then on where everyone else is very fair in complexion and just one member who has stayed under the sun too long. I was almost locked up when I came to visit the LaRues in July 2011. This is the conversation I had at the airport:
"Officer: Who are you visiting?
Me: My adopted family
Officer: How long ago were you adopted?
Me:Since I was 30!"
Mama Bear! I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name and remember all the joy you have brought to my life . All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part. I have you in my heart Mama Bear. Rest in Perfect Peace! Your daughter Aisha!

It was 43 years ago that Dawn came into our lives when the LaRue's moved from Dryden to Kitchener and we became neighbours on a new street in the city. LaRue's only stayed in Kitchener for two years but we have remained friends though the years. Dawn was a wonderful friend. We have lots of memories of times together whether it be in Hudson, Mississauga, Toronto, the Turks, Florida, Gobles Grove, Waterloo or Drayton. The last few years we enjoyed attending summer theatre with Dawn and Bob. I was always amazed at the amount of knowledge Dawn had about the musicals and the stars that had played in them. Dawn was known for her talent as a seamstress and her cross stitch artwork. I am so happy to have several of her cross stitch pictures as a permanent reminder of her friendship.
Thanks the memories and for being a friend. Love always, Greta & Rich
