Obituary of Michael Failes

FAILES, Michael David April 11, 1958 - September 5, 2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Failes of Toronto on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the age of 53 of cancer. Loving and devoted husband of Lee (MacDonald) and incredible father of Andrew, Lynsey and Emily. Dear brother of Patricia McMullen (Peter). Michael is predeceased by his parents Ken and Doris Failes of Dundas, Ontario. Michael will also be missed by his parents-in-law Lois and Gary MacDonald and sisters-in-law Lynn Holt (Phil) and Pam Pollock (Rob) and many nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School where he was the recipient of the prize in Labour Law. He also attended Queen's University Law School where he received his LLM. After working at the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Michael joined the Labour Law firm Filion Wakely Thorup in 1986 and became a partner in 1990. He was also a guest lecturer at Queen's University School of Industrial Relations and was former Vice President Government Affairs and Advocacy for the HRPAO. A special thank you to Mike's best friend, Stuart Bollefer and his wonderful wife Diane. We send a big 'high five' to all his basketball buddies. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9. Funeral service will be held in NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road on Saturday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation re: Hanna Chair in Surgical Oncology Research.
