Obituary of Margaret Smith

Margaret Ann Smith (nee Williams) 1942-2011 Peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Monday, August 8th, 2011 surrounded by her family. Ann was a lover of life, laughter, family and friends. A graduate of The University of Toronto in Physical and Occupational Therapy, Class of 1963, Ann dedicated much of her time to volunteering, receiving the Volunteer Service Award from the Lieutenant Governor in 1994. As both a volunteer, and a board member, Ann spent more than 25 years helping the Centennial Infant and Child Centre, a passion that she has passed on to her family. Never one to sit still for long, Ann's love of life impressed us all as she kept herself busy with many activities including tennis, golf, bridge, traveling, volunteering, involvement in the Garden Club of Toronto and, most importantly to Ann, spending time with her family and friends. Ann's dedication and love for her husband and children was always wonderful to watch and she shared that same loving nature with her many, many friends. She was a true example of someone who lives with love, compassion, and generosity. Survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Bill Smith, son Blair Smith and daughter Alison Smith, her brother Richard Williams (Pauline), her nieces Kathy Williams, Sue Loveless (Evan), Kara Smith Hetherington (Rod) and her nephews Rick Williams (Merrianne) and Mark Smith (Tracy), her brother-in-law Bob Smith and sister-in-law Sandra Smith, along with six grand-nephews. She will be remembered always by countless family members and friends, who will dearly miss her bright smile, caring nature and willingness to help one and all. A memorial service will be held in TIMOTHY EATON MEMORIAL CHURCH, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto on Saturday, August 13th at 3:30 p.m. Family and friends will gather at the ALEXANDER & HOULE FUNERAL HOME, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham on Monday, August 15th at 1:30 p.m. for procession to interment ceremony at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
