Obituary of Hans Josef Jochem
It is with great sadness that the family announces that Hans passed away after a long illness on June 30, 2007 at Carefree Lodge in North York. Hans was just shy of his 82nd birthday. Beloved husband of Liselotte (Bommer); loving and devoted father of Klaus, Karin (Macpherson) and Andrew; father-in-law to Arn and Seljan; loving and affectionate Opa to Max and Elise; loyal brother to Alois and loving brother-in-law to Helene. The family extends thanks for the kind thoughts for Hans from friends and neighbours and sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Carefree Lodge, North York General and Scarborough Grace Hospital who helped Hans during his illness over the last three months. Hans was born in Bettingen in the state of Saarland, Germany. Hans immigrated with his wife and son to Canada in 1952, settling first in Montreal and moving to Don Mills in 1958 where he remained a lifelong resident. An entrepreneur with a vision ahead of his time, Hans established and built a successful engineering sales firm which continues today. Beyond his work, Hans was an enthusiastic photographer and lover of painting, sculpture and antiquities. Hans will be remembered by everyone who knew him as someone who embraced life and all its opportunity with a passion, sharing his vivacity and love with family and friends alike. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5 at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East). A reception will follow in the Leaside Room. Interment that afternoon at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, Suite #1200, Toronto, M4R 1K8 would be most appreciated by the family.
