Obituary of Kathleen Eleanor Lackie
Kathy died peacefully, and for us very sadly, in hospital in Toronto on Saturday, June 23, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved daughters Brynn and Lauren, mother Meg, partner Uno Hoffmann, pugs Hugo and Pee Wee, her cats Baby, Precious Angel, Timmy, and Lola, her mom's dog Max, and many close friends from several generations. Kathy touched the hearts and minds of many people. She had impact. She demanded candor, integrity, principle, intellectual curiosity, insight, inspiration and humour. She got to the inside of you and she took risks. She loved to laugh, hard. She never stopped exploring; "running the streets" she would say. She always asked the question nobody else would. Her keen intellect and curiosity created adventures for her and for those she chose to take on the ride. She was a truth seeker, especially when the truth was on the edge. She had a keen interest in the issues and challenges of the human condition which informed her ability to befriend people from all generations. Kathy was also an aesthete which shone in her professional work and her private life, be it the beauty of her home, her taste in art or her captivating personal style (even if there was too much black in her closet). It was a privilege to experience life with Kathy and her girls; she was an inspiration to them, and they to her. The loss of Kathy will leave a permanent gap in each who knew her well. As were her wishes, there will be neither a funeral nor a memorial, just some gatherings along the way. She will be cremated and her remains placed in the Lackie family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery and in a garden dear to her heart. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to either of the following: Opportunity International Canada (www.opportunityinternational.ca) or Toronto Botanical Garden (www.torontobotanicalgarden.ca).
