We both are saddened to learn of Jack's passing. My (Herb's) last communication was about 18 months ago when he aided me in researching my father's activities in the Canadian Navy in WWII. A childhood memory that I have, and that I'll never forget, is his making me aware of the danger of panicking when being unable to get my head above water, a lesson that he taught me in Stoney Lake. We also recall his booming voice and his majestic presence. Our sympathies to Betty Jean and all the family. Herb & Judy Stevens, Shefford, Quebec

The sad news of Jack' death has struck our family and has provoked a reminiscence of many good memories. To you Mrs Banks and John, my recollection of Jack is one of abnegation, generosity and contentment. One can not forget his ever lasting and never ending enthusiasm in life. Especially to me I remember our times at the Canadian German Chamber of Commerce and our discussions on a subsidiary of Majestic Pipelines. Despite the many years since, Louise and I still treasure and remember very clearly your so kind hospitality in Naples and in Toronto. We are sorry of his departure and we offer to you, to your families and to all of Jack's so many friends our most sincere condolences.

Dear Mrs. Bankes: May I express my sincere sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Mr. Bankes. You may remember me, as I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for Mr. Bankes following his retirement from RBC, both when he was located at Plaza and subsequently at his home office. I have fond memories of Mr. Bankes, a man of great integrity and so wonderfully kind and generous to those around him. I always admired his love of life and we shared our love of family. With kind regards, Sandy Gray

To the Bankes family: My memories are of a kind senior banker taking interest in a new recruit 30 years ago. Mr. Bankes introduced me to Leslie, so I would know someone in my MBA class at Western. I cherish the photograph he took of me and my parents at graduation. He also beat me at squash at the Granite Club a few years later so I would know what level of fitness to strive for as I grew older! I am happy to have known him and to have met all of you through that acquaintance. I hope your sadness at this time is sprinkled with memories that bring smiles and laughter - I think he would like that.

This letter has already been mailed to Humphrey Funeral Home but I repeat it here in case it does not arrive in time. Dear Mrs Bankes and Family, My brother and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy. I had already been planning to write to you in order to inform you of the death of our mother, Margaret Anne Wennberg, on May 11, 2008. Erik, our father, died May 7, 2002. They considered you both to be very special friends and just 2 months ago, in April, Mom and I had a lovely time sharing her memories of your 'Bridge Group' Get-together in Naples, Florida. I remember how kind you were to travel to Rothesay for the surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary party. Your presence made the celebration very special. I am very sad to think Mr Bankes has passed on but I picture some very lively bridge and golf games that have just started in the next world. Our thoughts are with you all. Anne Wennberg Menzies and Michael Wennberg

On behalf of our mother Wilma Dobson, who is currently not well enough to send her own message, we would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences on the loss of such an incredible gentleman. Although our mother is not able to share the words that she would like us to express, it is a testament to the history and importance of our families' friendship that not only do we know how important it is to extend our condolences on behalf of our Mother but we are each saddened and mourn the loss of such a wonderful man. We feel grateful and overwhelmed that he was able to attend our father's funeral last May. His presence, his larger than life presence, brilliant smile and easy, positive manner, brought back so many memories and we enjoyed hearing him talk about how our father was an usher at his wedding during the war, and about their career long friendship at the Bank. Each of us as children have many warm memories of Stoney Lake, of his 'booming voice" in our home and of your warm and welcoming home in Toronto. We are grateful that we were able to reconnect with him last May. No matter what the age, it is always difficult to lose a husband, a father, a friend. We are saddened by his loss but celebrate a wonderful long life of a great man who was admired by many and was an inspiration to all of us. Our deepest sympathy, Rick, Ginny and Nancy on behalf of Wilma Dobson

Betty Jean , John Bankes and Family We are saddened by the passing of Jack who I remember warmly since I was 3 years old in Calgary. My family and I were so honoured and delighted to have Jack and John attend last year's service for my father Tommy Dobson. It seems an end to an era when people like them who have touched so many lives and been an inspiration for all must leave us. Now that we are returning from Europe to settle back in North Toronto in July, we look forward to visiting you and your family and expressing our love and admiration personally. In the meantime our thoughts and prayers are with you . Rick ,Leigh Thomas and William.
