My sincere condolences to the family of Jim O'Connell. While I did not know him personally I realize that his presence will be sorely missed. As an employee of London Public Library (London ON), I wanted to let you know that we received a donation to the Cherryhill Branch in memory of Jim. This donation was made by a library user named Mike Drabick who was a great follower of Jim's television market broadcast. Once again, my sincerest sympathy on your loss.

I had the privilege of knowing Jim and having him interview me many times over the past 8 years. From the humble beginnings on Jarvis Street to the current BNN facilities. Jim was always a gracious host who was well prepared and exemplified professionalism. I always enjoyed my hour with him on Market Call. He will be missed by all who had the honour to meet him and get to know him. May our Lord comfort Lisa and his family at this very difficult time. I share your loss and send to you my deepest sympathy and love.

My sincerest condolences to all Jim's family. I hope all who knew and loved Jim can find solace and comfort in the knowledge that his all-too-brief life on earth has touched and saddened as many hearts as his presence brightened each day on television sets all across the country while at BNN. Jim is truly a man of which we can most assuredly say, we shall not see his like again. Jim's passing is not only a terrible tragedy for his family and friends but for all Canadians who respect journalistic integrity and high standards. Jim simply put was the best of the best! His ability to ask the right questions of guests at just the right time always had me thinking, yes, that is exactly what I want to know too. What a tremedous person. If there is any comfort in such a sad loss, let it be in the memory of what he meant to so many people all across Canada and how much he was valued, respected and regarded by all he knew and the many thousands like me who knew him only from our television sets. I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at Report on Business Television and found him to be a gentle man. He had a good sense of humour, patience and a kind manner. The world is a less lovely place without him. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. With warmest thoughts, Ann

Back when I first began at the station, I walked in to tie my necktie one day. While Jim was spraying his hair with that insecticide he always used, he was looking at me out of the corner of his eye. "You need a notch." "Huh?" was my articulate response. "Your tie goes out. You need it to bow inwards." Then, he proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes showing me how to tie my knot properly. My father never showed me how to tie a tie properly. Yet, Jim spent his valuable time showing me that little trick of the trade. Jim is one of the classiest individuals I have ever met. I'll miss you, old friend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim and having dinner on 2 occasions and met Lisa when i visited their home with Steve Whitley.. Jim was as he appeared - a gentleman with a sly sense of humour, keen wit and amazing twinkle in his eye. In only 2 dinners meetings, I felt like i had known him for years. Please accept my deepest condolences - if there was ever any truth to the saying 'only the good die young' - this would be the ultimate case -heaven now has the best journalist in the business at the desk.... rest well my friend - you will be remembered.

To Lisa and Family: I would like to extend to all of you my sincere condolences in your recent loss. Jim was a master at what he did for a living, and I tried to watch Marketcall each day. He was a person you could easily relate to as companion or friend and felt he was so generous in his demeanour, representing the small investor on his program. It is difficult to express how shocked I was to learn of his death. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and both my wife and I extend to the entire family our heartfelt sympathy. Gods Blessings on you all. Fred A. Norton Organist, Butler Funeral Home (Duke Chapel) \ St. Catharines, Ont.

Although I never knew Jim personally, or had occasion to call him on his segments of the BNN show, I enjoyed his interviews with a multitude of C.E.O.s and other high-ranking officials from Canadian business. His voice and the way he handled himself, made you feel that he was your friend. You knew that you could trust him. His work later in the day with Kim Parlee was equally excellent. With humour thrown in at appropriate times, it made for a most informative and interesting programme. There was a great chemistry between those two - and it showed. I know that Kim will miss him terribly. I, and no doubt, many thousands are going to miss this giant, taken at such a young age. My sincere condolences to Lisa and the family. Sincerely Rod West
