Obituary of Douglas Heath Gates

With much love, we celebrate the long and abundant life of Doug. Peacefully, on Saturday, March 24th, 2007, at age 91, attended by his adored and loving wife of 64 years, June (nee Hiltz), and devoted sons Doug Jr. and Gord. Loved and missed by grandchildren Rob, Laura, Geoff, Amy and daughter-in-law Susan (Doug Jr.). Predeceased by brothers Fred and Bev. Doug, an overseas W.W.II veteran, became a well-known and successful Toronto home builder. He was a devoted husband and a loving and responsible father and grandfather. Doug and June have been active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church for 54 years. Dougs passion was golf. Summers at his cottage in Beaverton and winters in Sarasota were spent on the golf course, and more recently, lawn bowling. He was a long-time member of Cedarhurst Golf, Bayview Curling and Willowdale Lawn Bowling Clubs and a volunteer at the Daily Bread Food Bank. Sincere thanks to dedicated professionals at St. Michaels Hospital and Providence Healthcare, and especially to generous and loving family members for their support over the past three months. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton East), from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 30th. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st with a reception to follow. If desired, donations may be made to St. Michaels Hospital Foundation. Were all on your team, Dad.
