Obituary of Ian Cardow Pirrie
It is with great sadness we announce his passing on 5 March 2007 in his 83rd year after a brave battle with cancer. He was the younger son of John Pirrie and Annie (Nan) Potter Finnie and born 20 February 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Evelyn Louise (Adams) Pirrie. He will be deeply missed by his children the late Elizabeth Anne (Jeff Jennings), Margaret Lillias (Wayne Sibole), Carolyn Louise (Al St. Pierre) and John Russell Frederick (Lidia); also by his grandchildren Sarah, Craig, Tom, Martha (Niall Orr), Megan, Devon, Weston, Malcolm and Gavin. In Scotland, he was predeceased by his brother David and survived by his sister-in-law Ibel Hawson, two nephews and their families. Ian was evacuated to Canada from Glasgow as a war guest in 1940 to live with his uncle and aunt Frederick and Lillias Bauckham and his cousins John and Bruce. In the early 40s he met the love of his life Evelyn and became engaged while overseas. He volunteered for the Canadian army during the war and served as a rifleman, L/C and Corporal/Bren gunner in the Highland Light Infantry of Canada through Belgium, Holland and northern Germany. At wars end he demobilized in Canada and married Evelyn. After the war he enjoyed custom home building with Bauckham Construction Company. He was keen on sailing, curling at the Granite Club and his poker group. We shall miss his caring, kindness, humour, knowledge, support and love. Special thanks to Virginia Clark Weir of the Freeman Centre at NYGH for knowledge, caring and support, to Raquel his home caregiver and to Rev. Ferne Reeve of Trinity.
