Obituary of Thomas Geoffrey Linnell
Captain T.Geoffrey Linnell died quietly on the morning of January 15th, 2007, at his home in Toronto. Born in Nottingham in 1920, Geoffrey joined the Officer Training Corps (OTC) in 1936 and became a Captain in the 48 Commando in 1943. In 1944 the 48 Commandos landed with the 3rd Canadian Division on Juno beach in Normandy, and was the only surviving troop commander at the end of D Day. He is the former President of the 48 Commando Royal Marines Association, which he formed in 1946, and author of numerous historical accounts of the battles in Normandy, Sicily and Walcheren. Captain Linnell�s knowledge of these historical events, his kindness and wonderful sense of humour will be missed by all who know him. A Funeral service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Monday, January 22nd at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Leaside Room.
