Obituary of Rudolph Schury
SCHURY, Rudolph
1915-2007
Passed away peacefully on Monday, the 15th of January, at his home with his loving wife of almost 68 years at his side. He had a long and interesting life through which he was supported by his wife with unfailing love and devotion.
He was predeceased by his only and much cherished daughter Eva Holtby. He will be deeply missed by his son in law Philip Holtby, two grandsons Christopher and Markus and their families, two step granddaughters Caren Holtby Hannebauer and family and Ann Roy Holtby and daughter Breton, as well as his sister Austria Maria Bousek and nephew Rolph Brandt (Silvi) and sister in law Gertrude Gutstein, wife of the late Kammersaenger Ernst Gutstein.
As an entrepreneur he was admired and was highly respected for his inventive spirit, bold vision and integrity. He never shied away from risks and met obstacles with courage, great strength and hard work.
In the early fifties, he became one of the first and biggest Volkswagon dealers in Toronto, sole importer for Telefunken of Germany for Canada with interests in many smaller businesses. He represented El Salvador as Consul for 15 years.
He traveled extensively, had a keen interest in European history. He took great pride in his family, loved animals, especially his German shepherd dogs, which he adored and was adored in return. He was a great host with a fabulous sense of humour, a great story teller for his grandchildren and will be deeply missed by family and friends. His enterprising spirit will live on in his 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21st with a reception to follow in the Leaside Room.
