Obituary of Royden Linkert
Peacefully, after a wonderful life, following surgery, on January 10, 2007, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed away at Scarborough General Hospital. Roy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Ellen (nee Shearer), daughter Diane and husband Robin, son Blair and wife Dale, and daughter Jill. Roy will also be missed by his grandchildren Jordan, Elizabeth and Rebecca, great grandchildren Rowan and Raven, his brother Murray and sister Elsie, and many other relatives and friends. Predeceased by son Wayne and wife Mary, son-in-law Jim, and brother Jack. Roy was born on November 24, 1918 and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. As a result of his father�s illness, Roy left school short of graduating and worked for the Linkert family bakery until 1941 when he joined the RCAF and became a flight instructor. In the service, he met the love of his life Ellen and they married on April 1, 1943. After the war, Roy joined the London Life Insurance Company, where he spent the rest of his career. Very successful, he was known for his dedication, high ethical standards, and commitment to excellence. Roy and Ellen lived in Hamilton, Edmonton, Calgary and Peterborough, before settling in Toronto in 1955. After retiring in 1983, Roy and Ellen divided their time between their homes in Scarborough and Florida, as well as their cottage near Wilberforce, Ontario. A memorial service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), at 1p.m. on Monday, January 15 2007 with a reception to follow in the Leaside Room.
