My thoughts and prayers are with you Hugh, Ann and the Canning family. May Hugh Francis find peace and joy in the arms of Jesus. Holy Sonnet X - John Donne DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so, For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow, Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee, Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee doe goe, Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie. Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell, And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well, And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then; One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally, And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Hugh's passing. Though people drift apart as they grow older, memories remain. Some of my fondest memories will involve a lake clear as glass, a strong boat and Hugh cutting the first run of the day. At that sport, as with so many other activities, he excelled far beyond any of us. Hugh's positive attitude and sense of humour was inspirational to all who had the pleasure to know him. Our deepest condolences to Dr. and Mrs Canning and to the entire Canning family.

I'm so so sorry for what happened to Hugh. It shouldn't have happened; not at all. Hugh was a real fighter. He truly a great guy; a funny, considerate man. I love his jokes and laughing at our silly conversation together. Having the opportunity to know him, to go through the struggle together with him, and to work with him this past month was a real honour for me. I wish that I had known him longer. I admire that he has such a supportive family and lots of good friends. I loss a great patient and a friend. I will miss you, Hugh. May God bless him forever. Kenneth

My sincere condolences on the loss of your son Hugh. I met Hugh 3 years ago at Orillia as we visited with Tony and Susie Morrison. My wife and I are boaters and have become good friends with the Morrison's. It was a pleasure meeting Hugh and this year he even invited me to his "scramble" in 2007. I am so sorry that will not happen. Hugh was a great guy, so positive and full of life. I will miss him and Canada Day in Orillia will not be the same without him. We will however hoist a beer or two in honour of Hugh as he would want us too. He lit up the lives of people around him. You should be proud as I know you are. I am certainly a better person for knowing Hugh. Sincerely, Jeff and Trish

While I admit that I was never close to Hughie, I will say that I always enjoyed a conversation with him when the time presented itself. I am sorry to hear of his death and wish my best to his parents and siblings. I always found that he had a great sense of humour and loved hockey with the rest of the family. Hughie, we will all miss you.

Since meeting Hugh, while working at AXA Home Ins and moving onto Zurich Canada, our freindship grew as we shared laughter with the Zurich gang from Training & Development and long time friends from other business units. I personally will cherish all the good times we shared. Hugh will always have a special spot in my heart. My sincere condolences to Hughes family and many friends as he will be greatly missed.
