Obituary of Herb Chapman
CHAPMAN, Herb
Died at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre on October 17, 2006, from complications related to Parkinsons disease. He had lived in the Veterans Wing at Sunnybrook since 2002. Herb was born in Tipperary, Ireland, in 1921 and moved to Canada in 1925. He was raised in Edmonton, Alberta, and enlisted with the Air Force at Fort William in the 418 Edmonton Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving overseas from 1942 to 1946. On his return he attended Queens University, graduating in 1950 as a metallurgical engineer. In 1968 he earned his Masters of Science at the University of Cincinnati. Herb is survived by his wife Edith (ne Thompson), daughter Kit, son-in law Bob Zachary, sisters Betty, Doreen and Kathleen, and his sister-in-law Jean. He was predeceased by siblings George, Michael, Thomas, Christina McBratney, Mabel, Robert, Doris Campbell and William. Music was important to Herb throughout his life. Even recently he still filled the halls of Sunnybrook with his glorious tenor voice, somewhat marred by Parkinsons but full of his love of music. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for him in emergency and the ICU in his last few days and to the nurses and staff of K3C during his years in the Veterans Wing. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), Toronto, on Sunday, October 22, from 2:00 until 5:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, October 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. Private interment.
