Obituary of Robert Allan Scoon
SCOON, Robert Allan
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at Claremont Retirement Residence on October 3, 2006, at the age of 84. Loving husband of Eleanor for nearly 60 years and father of Nancy Lowden (Blake), David (Ann) and Bill (Stephanie). Son of Goldie and Norma Scoon and predeceased by his brother Jack (Patricia). He will be sadly missed by his 6 grandchildren, Whitney, Blake, Michael, Trevor, Rob and Matthew and by his many nephews, nieces and their families.
Allan grew up in Toronto and attended Toronto Model School, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1944. Allan had a very successful business career. After Dominion Electric, the business started by his father, was sold in the early 60s, he started his own company manufacturing circuit breakers followed by 3 years with the federal government in Ottawa working with the then Department of Trade and Commerce and External Affairs. Returning to Toronto he worked with Industrial Wire and Cable and then became president of Toromont Industries.
Longtime organizer of morning tennis for the 7:30 a.m. bond-clippers, Allan also loved playing golf and bridge with his friends at the Rosedale, York and Granite Clubs. He and Eleanor traveled the world and spent many happy years at Lyford Cay in Nassau. Allan loved life, his family and friends and never tired of trying to solve lifes great mysteries. The consummate "riddler, he will be agonizingly remembered for his brain twisting puzzles, quick wit and fabulous pratical jokes.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Claremont for all of their help and support, as well as Dr. Goldman and his palliative care team. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Thursday, October 5th at 1 oclock. If desired, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Canada, 7100 Woodbine Avenue, Suite #311, Markham, Ontario L3R 5J2.
