Patti & Family Sanford was an exceptional man, kind; loving and he had a wicked sense of humor, so for me to be writing a condolence note seems surreal. I know that everyone he worked with admired his drive and passion. He was a true gentleman (old style). They sure don

Well it seems like yesterday, sitting in Sanford's office, getting quizzed about the latest book I read, and what I thought of his silly looking "deer". That day, I decided to join Davis + Henderson, partly because of wanting to work with, and learn from this man who made me feel important and valued within a few minutes. Sanford is a great role model, and has positively impacted a great number of people. His passion for life will be missed but never forgotten. Patti, Gord, Stuart, Heather, and Kaitlin, we send you our deepest sympathies and best wishes during this difficult time. Yves, Jocelyn, Kate, Charlotte.

Growing up in Levack, I knew Sanford, his parents and sisters from childhood. My first memories were from St. John's United church. He was a great friend, an excellent athlete and the first of our crowd to go to university. When Sanford was present, a good time with lots of laughter was had by all. Over the years, I met him many times at Bay Street business meetings and annually at our Levack reunions. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

To the McFarlane family, It was with great sadness that I heard of your tragic loss and I wanted to take a moment to pass on to you my condolences at this time. I am an employee of Davis and Henderson in the Custom Art department at the Markham location. I have fond memories of my very first day with the company in October 2000. I joined D+H on the Annual Communication Day and was rather uncomfortable entering the hotel dining hall where I knew no one other than my department manager whom I had met at my interview. As I looked across the room, unsure of where to go, Sandford broke off from the group to which he was talking and stode to meet me. Offering his hand in a welcoming handshake, he announced "I am Sanford McFarlane and I am the CEO of Davis and Henderson." "Well, " I replied a little shakily, "I am your newest employee. I started today." He spent a few minutes making me feel very welcome and directing me toward the lunch buffet. I knew at once I had joined a company where a "family feeling" was truly expressed. Throughout the past few years I have had this first impression reinforced many times by the concern of managers and employees of D+H and feel sure that much of the warmth is a direct result of the caring Sanford showed all his colleagues. He will be much missed by all of us.

Patti, Heather, Kaitlan my deepest sympathies. Time and happy memories will help you in this time of grief. You have so many wonderful memories to sustain you. The loss of Sanford's strong guiding presence at D+H will be felt deeply. The United Way campaign will be particulary poignant this year.

Dear Mrs. McFarlane and family, this is one of many messages that you will receive from individuals who were very grateful to have spent any amount of time with Sanford. We recently became associates when D+H acquired our company AVS. Sanford's business acumen and moral alignment were the catalysts for our decision to accept D+H as our business partner. We will all miss Sanford's presence and persona and we are very fortunate that Bob will carry on to exemplify the role that Sanford modeled. Thank you for allowing me to have some of Sanford's precious time. Please accept our collective condolences and we wish you all the best. Garry J. van Soest

We were deeply saddened to here that Sanford had passed on. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Your whole family has the ability of making everyone in your presence feel special and a part of the family. Initially Sanford's relationship was that of a mentor, then he became a dear close friend and soon after a father figure. There is truly no way of describing how much of a positive influence he has and will always have in our lives. Through his battle with cancer we were given the extra time with Sanford to show him how much we cared about him and how much of a positive role he played in our lives. Our only hope is that he had already known how important he was and will always be in our lives. Sanford continues to live on in all of you. All of your thoughts, memories and actions. He will continue to live on and be introduced to new people, in all of our memories and stories too. Our deepest sympathy, Carlee,Chad,Katelyn&Kiera
