Obituary of Helen Mary Love

LOVE, Helen Mary (nee Dobbs) - Passed away peacefully at Donway Place on July 4, 2006 at age of 94. Loving wife of the late Gordon, her husband of 63 years. Devoted mother of Brian and cherished grandmother of Suzanne and Michael. Grateful special friend of Cathy and Bob Campbell. Helen was a member of Rosedale United Church for many years. Born in Winnipeg in 1912, she was the only daughter of Walter E. and Charlotte I. (nee Ellison) Dobbs. Her early athleticism, strength of constitution, passion for life and insatiable thirst for the game of bridge undoubtedly contributed to her extraordinary longevity. While diminutive in stature, she was large in character. Poised and steadfast, she followed the right in all things. As daughter of a CNR railway man, she attended twelve schools before graduating from high school and the Ontario Ladies College. In her healthy social years, she acquired friendships by the scoreleading to the handwriting of over 100 personalized Christmas letters every year for decades. She loved the written word and was an avid reader and writer. Her enthusiasm for storytelling came directly from her father who was an acknowledged raconteur, poet and student of the English language. She loved the arts and attended as many musical, theatrical, and visual arts events as possible. Her unquestioned loyalty and love of family was demonstrated daily. For a half century, her friends and bridge partners in Bennington Heights were a constant source of stimulation and delight. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 7-9pm on Thursday, July 13th. A service to celebrate Helens life will be held in the chapel on Friday, July 14th at 11 oclock, followed immediately by a reception. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 20 Holly Street, Suite #101, Toronto M4S 3B1. Pioneer as she was in many ways, Helens new vista is now the TransCanada Trail and beyond.
